Finally back...I hope

lol...well, it seems like another month has passed by without blogging again. Sad that I probably lost majority of my readers here, but on a brighter note (for myself), I was able to catch up with things I'd slacked off for a good part of the year. Yay! Feel so relax right now...

Looking at the current TVB programme list and their decision to air one sequel after another of past (successful?) series, I'm beginning to think TVB's having their own version of the "writers' strike," too! Where's the creativity? Survivor's Law II, War of In-Laws II, The Gentle Crackdown II. Come on... And to have them air consecutively after each other? (sigh) That's my little rant about them for now. Possibly more later...after I watch them.

Another bright note (for me; possible for others, too) "Best Selling Secrets" has extended the episodes up to 500!! Wonderful news to me as I'm still keeping up with it; however, I'm not quite sure if my parents want to spend any more money on a sitcom, but that's another story.

BSS is getting pretty interesting as now their focal point concentrates on the relationships of the each character. I like that, as it makes the storyline flows more smoothly and easier to captivate the attention of it's viewers. The addition cast members made (picture above) indicates the increase appearance of these characters. A little bit disappointed that Florence Kwok wasn't among the individuals picked, but I highly doubt her character will be minimized. The storylines between her and Diana Di (Alvina Kong) and Mo Gai Yung (Stephen Au) are the highlights of the sitcom. TVB can't be that cruel to me and write their storylines off.

A duet with Raymond or Bernice? Your chance!

The annual "Tung Wah Charity Show" 《歡樂滿東華2007》 is set to take place a week from tomorrow (Dec. 8th) and according to TVB.com, a chance to sing a duet with either Raymond Lam or Bernice Liu is up for bid! Definitely an once in a lifetime opportunity here. Here's how it works:

Hong Kong audience will have to go to ebay.com.hk (or TVB.com for direct link) to vote for whether you like a duet with Raymond or Bernice (there's separate tabs off of TVB's website). Once at the ebay site of the artist you had chosen, just start bidding! Just as simply as that! (Starting bid: $1000 HKD)

Winners will be able to sing with Raymond and Bernice live at the "Tung Wah Charity Show" on Dec. 8th! (I repeat it's going to be a live show!)

Umm...it would be fun, but...I don't think so. But since this is a charitable event, people of HK, remember to donate! It's for a good cause as every little bit helps! Happy bidding!

I'm trying to control my emotions here, (breathe in...breathe out...breathe in...breathe out...) trying to maintain my cool and collected image...(breathe in...breathe out...) but it's not working. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS WITH THE RESULTS! OH MY GOD! This is absolutely insane! It's rigged! It's all messed up! It's...it's...it's just wrong!

Why?...Why?...Why?...must TVB do this to us each and every year. It's just so dumb and makes no sense whatsoever to me. (sigh) For those who's still reading my rampage, I'm talking about the Anniversary Results of course, and for the highly surprised recipients for "Most Improved Male/Female" & "Best Supporting Actress." (sigh) Anyways, here's a recap, along with commentaries:

The TVB 40th Anniversary Award Ceremony night started off with clips of artists arriving in luxury cars (like previous years), accompanied by their designated parters for their walk on the red carpet. Next, we are brought back into TVB studios were Eason Chan kicks off the show singing "瑪利奧派對." His singing was good, but his clothings was hideous! You don't wear a gray-ish, purplish loose shirt that looks like a parachute and red sneakers to perform at such a formal night! And don't even get me started on the hair. Ugh!

Carol Cheng gets introduced as the night's MC, followed by the introduction of the artists: (in order of appearance)

First award given away that night was "Best Host," which was purely given (imo) base on the popularity of the show "Foodies 2 Shows." I watched the show and believe me, they are far from being the best.

Second & third award being presented was the "Most Improve Male/Female." As you can see, I changed my translations from being "actor/actress" to "male/female," which is technically more accurate, especially since Amigo Chiu won the award. Most improved...Amigo stayed about the same to me ever since I saw him at the MHK pageant in 2004. Compared to Chris Lai's performance over the year, this award was definitely set up, allowing him to win.

Kate Tsui winning "Most Improved" was the one I'm most upset about. Bernice got robbed once again! True, I did say that she improved alot over the year, but when compared to Bernice, she's still lacking! What's worst was when Kate was making her way up the stage, clips and commentaries was aired, explaining why she deserves it. One line particularly line erk me: "Over the year, her performance has vastly improved, especially for her role in "Steps." For someone who doesn't know Latin dance and was able to dance it so mesmerizing & elegantly, it proves her hard work has finally paid off." That's a bunch of ____!! They're so talking about Bernice! (sigh) Kate's back on my blacklist, plus her makeup for night was terrible! Reminds me of Frida Kahlo.

The "Best Supporting Actress" was another surprise of the night for me. Fala winning?! Unbelievable! First year truly experiencing the front-line of acting TV series and she won?! What about all the seniors before her? They deserve it much more! Again, this award was rigged!

Yay for Louis Yuen! I guess the popularity tide from HOG really catches to all its cast. So far up to this point, the only deserving award winner. Congrats to Louis once again. The artists were so happy for him when his name was called. Emotional and funny acceptance speech as well. How Louis managed that at such a time was quite impressive.

Next was for the award "Most Creative Variety Show" and won by "Foodie 2 Shows." Personally, I didn't think it was very creative as it's just a mix of the "Super Trios" & an old variety show hosted by Lydia Shum, Carlos Ng, and Timmy Hung. Again, it's the popularity thing.

For the "Most Enjoyable Value Show" award, it went to "Ten Years After" (拾年). I didn't watch this show, so can't comment on it.

Award for Mainland's Favorite Actor & Actress, Raymond Lam & Gigi Lai, I assume it's deserving. I'm still questionable about how the system actually works. Not much applause from artists sitting below. Gigi was giving her acceptance speech in a very small meek voice for some reason. Surprised maybe. Raymond turned out to be very calm and collected (& very cute), but not overly happy about winning.

Yay! I guessed "Best Variety Show" accurately! Again, one of the best variety show ever produced. So happy to hear that a possible 3rd installment is in consideration. Can't wait!

"My Favorite Male/Female Character" award was up next with Liu Wai Hung & Idy Chan as the presenters. Liu Wai Hung did a great job building up the excitement as everyone knew it was either Louise Li or Susanna Kwan getting it. Idy on the other hand had a long speech and I'm still not sure if I grasp what she was saying. Very deep and slightly too long. Anyways, Moses and Susanna won. Yay! Although, Moses did seem a bit disappointed when his name was announced, reminiscent of Charmaine's reaction from the year before.

"Best Promotional Clip" was the next award presented. There was neither a top 5 nor a top 3. It was just...they won. That's about it. Oh yeah...best clip goes to "The Drive of Life."

The hype of the night is finally here! Best Actress & Best Actor. Since Susanna Kwan already received the "My Most Favorite Female Character," automatically "Best Actress" would go to Louise Li. But a standing ovation was in order as that's exactly what she got when her name was announced. Louise's speech was great and emotional, but the true emotions starting pouring out when her daughter came out to present her with flowers. Aww...so sweet. Congrats to See Kei Jeh!!

It's great to see old faces again, especially faces like Kathy Chow. Still looks very pretty even in her 40s! She made a speech about the qualification of a perfect actor, and mentioned that a guy needs to be tall in order to look great with the female they're paired up with (not intentionally aiming towards Dodo and her boyfriend Lui Fong), but still pretty funny. Moses won (yay!), made a short speech thanking everyone and how he has finally got the award. When Moses paused, trying to think who else to thank, someone (I don't know who for sure; Louis Yuen as reported) said "Bik Yee" (Bernice), making Moses' face red and grinned while saying "Thank..., too." lol...so cute!

Last but not least, the prestigious "Lifetime Achievement Award" given to Lydia Shum. Standing ovation once again but this time from all the staffs of TVB. Seeing Lydia being wheeled out in her wheelchair, the dramatic weight lose and her devotion toward the television industry brought tears to everyone, myself included. It was great to see Lydia again back onscreen and I truly hope she remains healthy and recovers soon! =)

Final Predictions for "Best..."

Based on last night's "Scoop" 《東張西望》 , the top 5 nominees (currently) for the "Best Actor/Actress" category has been revealed:

That's crazy and a waste of an award (no offense). In my pov, it's stealing some thunder from the "Best Actor/Actress" winners. If TVB really wants to give out more awards, why not bring back the "My Favorite On-Screen Partner" (本年度我最喜愛的拍擋)?! (sigh)

Since the TVB's Award Ceremony is this Saturday, I think it's best that I hurry and finish up on my predictions on who's going to win. Let see...:

Best Variety Show:

"On the Road" (向世界出發)
This show by far has got to be one of the best variety programs produce by TVB in history. It's just a show that one can sit back at home and enjoy over and over again ( like me), as it broadens our knowledge of the world and cultures around us, and at the same time get better acquainted of the celebs. Hope it wins again this year, too. But with the popularity of "Foodie 2 Shoes" (味分高下), chances are slim.

Most Favorite TV Male Character:

Base on the series I saw this past year, I would say my favorite male character is...Bao Bao (鮑鮑)! Ha Yue's performance as Tong Yan Gai (唐仁佳 ) in HOG is truly the life of the series. His character was so easy to love and his laughter..so contagious! Definitely one unforgettable character and performance by Ha Yue. Job well done!

Most Favorite TV Female Character:

This category is the hardest to choose for. There's so many I like! I like Ester Kwan's 黃家嵐 (Wong Ka Nam; "Best Selling Secrets"), Jessica Hsuan's 李青雲 (Li Ching Wan; "Dicey Business"), Christine Ng's 葉滿枝 (Stella Choi, "A Green Grass of Home"), Shirley Yeung's 宋嘉兒 (Kelly Sung, "The Brink of Law"), Bernice Liu's 李心盈 (Samantha Lee, "Steps"), and the 3 female leads of HOG: Louise Li, Susanna Kwan, and Linda Chung. lol...I guess that basically means if any of the nominees I mentioned wins, I would be happy. Although, I'm guessing TVB would give the award to Dai Kei (大契). Reasons: keep reading.

Best Series:

"Steps" 《舞動全城》
Chances of this series getting in the top 5 nomination? Pretty good odds. Chances of this series actually winning? Umm...I don't think so. HOG's popularity is too strong this year, so odds are in their favor. However, I'm still cheering on for the black horses. "Steps" is a light-hearted comedy/drama that revolves around the art of dancing. The cast was great (minus a few), the storyline was fresh, and the ratings are decent. If this series win...I'll be surprise and happy. =)

Best Actress:

Everyone is saying Louise Li is going to win this year, but I'm putting my money on Susanna Kwan. Their actings are both great, but I have a feeling TVB's going to pull another WAB moment on us. Back in 2004, Sheren Tang was too a hot favorite to win Best Actress award, but in the end, the winner turned out to be Gigi Lai. Sounds familiar anyone? The situation is practically the same here. Dai Kei will get the "My Favorite TV Female" award, while Sai Kei gets "Best Actress." Another thing with TVB, there's a saying that "if you show up, you get an award; if you don't show, then no award." I've been watching a lot of variety show lately, and Susanna Kwan is everywhere! She's a guest here, a performer there; odds, I think, favors Susanna. (Personally, I voted Jessica Hsuan. Reasons: everyone should know. =P )

Best Actor:

This has got to be Moses' year to win "Best Actor." Everyone's expecting it! I'm expecting it, you're expecting it, the fans are expecting it. So if TVB pulls another "Kevin Cheng" trick again this year, I'm going to boycott TVB (lol..no I won't, but just saying). However, I still think Bobby Au Yeung chances of winning is just equally as high. hmm...guess we'll just have to see this Saturday!

Rundown of tomorrow's "Jade Singers Celebrate TVB Anniversary" (翡翠歌星賀台慶)

It's finally here! Tomorrow night will be TVB's annual "Jade Singers Celebrate TVB Anniversary" (翡翠歌星賀台慶); airing @ 8:30 pm. This year will be a little different since both Hacken Lee and Andy Lau will not be making an appearance; favors the female side. But by adding Eric Tsang as the captain for the guys, it just might fill in the missing gap. =) Earlier, Niki Chow injured her knee-cap area while rehearsing for "Jade Singer..", and during her phone-interview for Eileen Cha's "Va Va Voom" (巴巴閉邊個夠我查篤撐) yesterday, she confirmed that she will be staying at home and resting that night. Hope Niki gets better soon! Btw, is Raymond Lam really going to be on the show tomorrow? Huh...his name is among the list as a performer, along with Deep Ng, Don Li, etc. (scratches head) Oh well, not going to complain. Remember to tune in!

Predictions for Best Supporting Actress

Out of all the categories I voted for, the "Best Supporting Actress" was my least favorite. Why? The list is too too too too short! My gosh, so many actress should be added on (E.g. Kiki Sheung for "Family Link;" Anne Heung for "Best Bet;" Michelle Yim for "The Brink of Law," etc.)

Just looking at the list, it doesn't seem to matter who wins at the end. My favorite for the year has to go to Michelle Yim as Sung Kam Chi in "The Brink of Law." Her character was just awesome! How can TVB not put her in for nominations?! Unbelievable! And for that, whoever wins, congrats to them. (sigh) Anyways, back to my predictions:

1.) Fala Chan
Besides being a hot favorite for this year's "Most Improved Actress," Fala is also a strong contender for "Best Supporting Actress." For a newbie in the business, I'm really impress with her performance throughout the year. Let see...she was in Best Selling Secrets, Family Link, Heart of Greed, Steps, and mini-series "Colours of Love." If she wins, I guess I'll be okay with it. Deserving? I haven't decided yet.

2.) Mimi Lo
It's been a long time since I saw Mimi in a series, so it was great seeing her in "A Change in Destiny" and "The Green Grass of Home" this year. Mimi's acting has always been steady, but her popularity just...doesn't go anywhere. Chances of winning or even nominated: very very low, but I still like her.

3.) Gigi Wong
Besides Fala, I think Gigi has a chance in winning. So far, her character is enjoyable to watch in "The Drive of Life" and to add on to that, she's hosting one of TVB's food programs: "Secrets of Soups" (吾湯吾水嚐鮮篇). TVB "might" give the award to her, but Gigi just doesn't seem like the person whether awards matter or not. I'll just support her nonetheless.

4.) Florence Kwok
Yay! Florence is in the running! I think I nominated her as my favorite for last year's nominations, too, for her role in "Forensic Heroes" I believe. This year...she has got to be in the top 5. We practically see her in every other series this year; and now almost a regular on "Best Selling Secrets." Wouldn't be surprise if she turns out to be the "black horse" in this category. However she did leave TVB for awhile couple years back, will TVB be so lenient and give her the award?

5.) Leila Tong
Another deserving candidate in the running, however like what I said for "Most Improve," I highly doubt she's going to win. This time for a whole different reason. Earlier there were reports of Leila signing with a mainland company for singing? acting? something along the following. So because of this, I doubt TVB's going to give her the award, but rather give it to one of their own people instead. Typical of TVB nowadays.

Joey Yung's "Midnight" (零時零分) MV

This is the newest (I think it's the newest) music video for Joey Yung's song "Midnight" (零時零分), co-starring Ron Ng. I read that many claimed this MV as an alternate/better ending toward Joey & Ron's relationship for "On the First Beat." lol...understandable. It's a real cute MV and a good song. Enjoy!

Predictions for Best Supporting Actor

This category is probably one of my favorite categories to vote for and probably the hardest, too. Everyone (well, almost everyone) is a veteran in this industry & they each did a great job with their roles. If any of my top 5 win, I'll be happy for them. But what a shame that Wayne Lai didn't get nominated for this category, but for the "Best Actor" category instead. No offense, but it's about 100% he won't win it there, so why bother!

1.) Ng Wai Kwok
Just a little fyi, I'd started "The Drive of Life" already, and Ng Wai Kwok (Ng Siu Sung) is awesome in here! It's been years since I last saw him in a series (last time was for the 1994 series "Conscience" starring Maggie Siu, Deric Wan, Amy Kwok, etc.) Although, I'm far from finishing DOL any time soon, his performance is great so far; enough to get my vote. Welcome back to TVB!

2.) Louis Yuen
HOG is still a hot topic these days, despite it being aired couple months ago. But understandable, it's TVB Anniversary; typical. We hear praises for Dai/Sai Kai & Duc Duc Dei alot, but let's mention Uncle Bong now. I personally think Louis did a great a job portraying this character. Did I like his character? No, but I like controversies & troubles he brought to the Tong household; added more drama. Best of luck to Louis as he really is a remarkable actor.

3.) Evergreen Mak
Another great actor that I just love in about any series he's in. Sometimes supporting characters' storyline is what keeps me interested enough to watch a particular series. And in this case, it was all due to Evergreen and Yvonne Lam's chemistry in "Life Art" that gave me the patience needed to finish watching. Just for this reason only, Evergreen gets to be in my top 5. =)

4.) Elliot Yueh
I watched both of Elliot's series that were released this year: "The Brink of Law" (aired in January) & "The Slicing of Demons" (released overseas). Both series, Elliot delivered a strong performance, and that's about all I can say. I liked TBOL and I liked his character in TBOL, but can't really criticize him for not knowing much about him. Don't even know who he was until this year! lol..

5.) Benz Hui
I'm pretty sure TVB's going to pick Benz Hui to be this year's recipient for Best Supporting Actor. For those who don't remember, his role as Chow Fook Wing (周福榮) in "Dicey Business" was a huge hit amongst the audience earlier this year. Like my other nominees, I love Benz acting in just about any series. He's so funny and it's so easy to love his character. About time he gets recognition for his achievements, don't you think?

Predictions for Most Improved Actor

1.) Jack Wu
Jack really need some recognition for everything he has done at TVB. He's a great actor and is one of the host for "The Scoop." Even though I'll cheer for him if he wins, but I highly doubt it. His exposure really isn't too high with the public nor with TVB (the game show he co-hosted with Alvina Kong "Is that Right?" wasn't all that great). If TVB would just air "Phoenix Rising," his chances will definitely increase. Possibly next year... =/

2.) Stephen Wong
First off, I think Stephen is really cute on-screen; making it possible for him to become a male lead in series later on. But for most improved...I don't know. His recent appearance in "Steps" does make the audience recognize him a bit more (although I thought his character was little bit perverted with his daydreams over Kate; it's just me); but not much improvement. About the same to me. TVB is more than likely to put Amigo Chui in this spot as their top 5 over him.

3.) Chris Lai
lol...again my pick for the winner of this category is on the bottom of the list. Coincidence maybe. But seriously, out of all the nominees listed, Chris's chances of winning is pretty high. I can't find a reason why TVB would pick someone else over him! Chris took part in 4 of series aired this year and they all did really well, and yes, it's 4. TVB forgot to list "Fathers & Sons" as one of the series he took part of, although I'm still curious to know why "Glittering Days" is amongst the nomination list; wasn't it on last year's? Anyways, just to keep it short, my prediction is Chris would win; not complaining if he does.

4.) Stephen Huynh
I really don't know why I picked him into my top 5. He's cute? lol..possibly...since I'm seeing him in "Steps" now. ;-) Not the greatest actor of all and will definitely need more improvement, but there's potential. Other than his guest appearance in "Best Selling Secrets" & now "Steps," I don't recall seeing him anywhere else. hmm...

5.) Matthew Ko
Oh gosh...what's the best way to sum up what I think of him? He's...terrible? Yeah...pretty much it. Matthew definitely needs to work on his facial expressions in acting. While I was watching "Steps," and they zoom in on his face, I'm always thinking to myself "Why does he have the funny look on his face?" (sorry to any Matthew fan reading this) His reasons for being on my list: just because. Just because he's Mr. HK. Just because his exposure has increased to the public. Just because TVB likes him, or so I think. Chances of winning...I hope not! I'll cough up blood if he does.

Predictions for Most Improved Actress

I'd been glancing at the list for this year's Nomination List for "Best ____" for a couple of times already. With this year's new policy, the list seems shorter than normal or is it just me? I guess it makes sense since we've practically been seeing the same actors/actresses for every series. Although, I a bit surprise with one minor detail. Did anyone else noticed that Kenix Kwok and Frankie Lam isn't nominated for any category, other than "Best Series?" Pretty ruthless of TVB in my opinion since "Ten Brothers" did pull in the highest ratings up-to-date of the 2007 year (if my memory serves me correctly). Just a little fyi.

After glancing at this year's nomination list for "Most Improved Actress," it's quite easy for me to pick my top 5 nominees based on this year's performance only. First off, in my opinion, "Most Improved" is an award that can basically be competed by anyone in TVB; not just for the younger generation and he/she can be a main lead. The recipient must have shown vast improvement over their previous performances. That's what "most improved" mean, right? Anyways, back to my list:

1.) Bernice Liu
Pretty obvious that I would pick her. Her recent performance in "Steps/Devil's Disciples/The Brink of Law" really shows how much she has improved in her acting, especially when delivering her dialogues. No more of the slight pauses she used to have in-betweens lines; runs much more smoothly now (more natural). Great year for Bernice, especially after TVB customize her "Lee Sum Ying" character for her. How can she not win?

2.) Kate Tsui
lol...although her percentage of winning this year is practically <5% with me, have to give credit to Kate for a great effort this year. If she would just tone down her acting (such as don't over exaggerate her lines) she should be fine. Better luck next year.

3.) Fala Chen
To be honest, I really had no clue who Fala was until I watched HOG this year. Her performance was pretty good for a newcomer, and I'm pretty sure she's on the good side with TVB since the series she participated in has been receiving good ratings (HOG, Family Link, Steps). Chances of her winning: about 30%.

4.) Leila Tong
It's pretty hard to believe that Leila is probably the youngest of the 5, but at the same time her performance is the strongest. Because of her carefree nature, odds of Leila winning is pretty slim (she doesn't seem to mind if she wins or not). Besides, her acting is pretty solid to me, with not much improvement. Should TVB move her to the "Best Supporting Actress" category instead?

5.) Sharon Chan
I love Sharon's character in "Devil's Disciples." Definitely see improvement there, but because the series was constantly bashed; chances of her winning is a flop.

My...my..my time sure went by real fast for the year 2007. Just a blink of an eye, TVB's anniversary is a little over a month away. Time to take out the sledgehammers and chainsaws again and start bashing each other with it; a little annual event amongst fans leading toward the Anniversary. lol..personally, I find it quite amusing as I often join along with the "fun" (that is, if my favorite artists don't get pulled into the mayhem). So please, warning to all, remember to take cover and don't get too riled up of what we (I) have to say. =D

It's been awhile since I last updated this blog; thought it's about time I started posting again before I lose all my readers. lol...

Finished watching "On the First Beat" for awhile now, and like everyone said, it was just an okay series. Okay...I lied, it was a pretty boring series. Nothing much happened! Definitely didn't live up to "The Academy" at all. (sigh) So disappointing. The new cast TVB put together for the sequel (except for Ron, Sammul, etc.) was...not something to be excited about? Originally, I was all for seeing Joey act in a series, which she did okay, but man...what she wore throughout the series was hideous! (E.g. at her brother's wedding) Kate Tsui's character was annoying as ever as Man Ching (contradicting her Chinese name); very loud and obnoxious. Sonija & Michael really had lots of screen time together, but majority of time, they're just staring off into space or at each other. I bet the series could be cut down to 25 episodes if TVB just edit out those scenes. One more final thought: Sammul Chan is now on my black list after watching this series. (-_-)

-Latest news, Producer Leung mentioned that a sequel for "Steps" is in consideration. Isn't that a bit too soon to decide on a sequel? I'm just starting on this series after seeing endless praises for it (can't resist a dancing series), so can't comment much, but still...
-TVB's 40th Anniversary Series: "Steel Lips Silver Teeth" & "The Ultimate Crime Fighter." Personally, I'm not favoring either one. 1) It's another Charmaine Sheh series. After seeing her in the 60 episodes "Drive of Life," I believe HK viewers might want a break from her. 2) Another Kevin Cheng & Gigi Lai series. Why? 2 words: "Life Art." Need more reasons? Every year TVB produces an annual calendar, indicating which artists would TVB promote in the following year. Normally, artists that appear on the calendar are either TVB’s #1 brothers and sisters or artists that are well received by the public. This year TVB will feature over 60 artists in their 2008 calendar, along with only 4 of the months will have location scenery of Taiwan as a background.

Supposedly, on September 9th, Kevin Cheng was to have his calendar photo shoot along with Kate Tsui, Sarah Song, etc. at a Taiwan location scene. However when Kevin found out that he was to pair with Kate, etc. and his calendar month was May (nothing special in May), his face immediately darken and requested to be switched! Originally, scheduled on 10th of September for the November month photo shoot was Charmaine Sheh, Jessica Hsuan, Roger Kwok, and Moses Chan, but due to Moses’ “sudden” flight cancellation, Kevin filled in the vacant spot.

From what was learn, Kevin was unhappy with the pairings TVB made, indicating Kate’s not qualify enough to place along side him. Kevin expressed his dissatisfactions to the executives and at the end, got his way, as Moses is out and he was in.

With this year being TVB’s 40th Anniversary, TVB specially asked the renowned Stanley Kwan to be the director for their 40th anniversary calendar photo shoot. Earlier this week, Charmaine Sheh, Roger Kwok, Jessica Hsuan, Kevin Cheng, Leanne Li, Anna Yau, Queenie Chu, Sung Chih Ling, and 8 others were present in a remote area in Taipei for the November (anniversary month) photo shoot. Stanley instructed the females to hold either feathers or handkerchiefs, while the guys hold instruments in their hands. Standing in the front row were Charmaine Sheh, Jessica Hsuan, Roger Kwok, and Kevin Cheng.

During break time, Jessica picked up one of the trumpets lying around and started to blow into it. Sparking his interest, Roger went over, took the trumpet from Jessica’s hand, and blew into it himself; started an instrument playing/blowing contest! Kevin soon join in with the fun; grabbing a saxophone to play; turning the scene into a musical instrument war!

Being named as TVB’s #1 sister, Charmaine was reportedly bashed by the public as being arrogant. For example, in TVB's current airing series "The Drive of Life," Charmaine's acting is criticize as being way too over the top (over-acting); causing the ratings to not meet ideal standards. Charmaine's character, "Wing Sau Fung" was,too, not a favorite amongst the audience. Instead, they favor Jessica's Wah Ching Yu" much more. Supposedly, when Jessica was to be in the photo shoot with Charmaine, etc, Charmaine's face immediately darken. Too further enhance the situation; Jessica was to stand in the middle, in the front beside Roger, while Charmaine and Kevin stood on either side of them. The speculations of the 2 ladies at odds with each other appeared to be false, as they were frequently seen chatting in the make-up room and in-between takes.

Jessica was busy with the filming of “Healing Souls” in China and would only return and stay in Hong Kong for a night. As she had promised to do a cover page shot for Suddenly Weekly, her manager phoned them on a Tuesday. The reporter immediately went to borrow some outfits for shooting on the next day. The photography session was completed on Wednesday and Jessica proceeded to China to continue filming that night. The precious one-day break was given to “Me!” exclusively. The reporter’s impression of Jessica was a famous actress from TVB and had previous records of troubles. Her appearance that day changed the opinion of the reporter towards her from troublesome to straightforward and neat.

Straightforward
The reporter felt that readers would be familiar with her series and classic works given her fame and he was afraid that he would mention incorrect facts as he seldom watch television programmes. He chose to ask Jessica on tips of being beautiful, and unexpectedly, Jessica answered, “Did you do any research on me before interviewing me?” Her tone was not harsh; however, the reporter was stunned. It would be bad to admit the truth and it is worse to lie. The reporter experienced Jessica’s candidness through the fact that he did not do his homework.

There should be little opposition when we conclude that Jessica is straightforward. As the reporter was caught red-handed not doing any research, he asked her on the titles of works that she was satisfied. “I was satisfied with Golden Faith and gave myself 95 marks. Other shows like Detective Investigation Files IV and Life Made Simple are OK. However, none of the shows relied on the female lead to bring out the whole story. Although I was contented with the shows, I would feel that I still lack a representing show in the hearts of the audience!”

Flow with Fate
Jessica was plain when she spoke which was very different from the previous entertainment tabloids that alleged wars between female artistes. “My mentality had changed and I reduced the total number of shows filmed in these recent years. I changed my contract with TVB to ‘per series’ lest a continual filming of shows. On the extreme end, my career is nothing compared to family, friends and love. Now, I would have a holiday in Hong Kong whenever it is possible to return to my dogs and cherish the time I had with them.”

We know that Jessica appreciated dogs. What about humans? Both relationships that were known to public almost made it onto the red carpet. Does Jessica wish to marry badly now? “I admit that I exceeded the optimum age of marriage and I had experienced the period of time where I longed for marriage. There would be a reason to a breakup in my previous relationships- either we were incompatible or we were immature. Since we already made the decision to no sound the wedding bells, I would not marry for the sake of marrying when I am more mature now. The old saying goes, “leave everything to fate!”

Jessica had softened up a lot. Previously, she would ignore or reprimand reporters who asked questions that she was not interested in. Now, she would answer, “I had little interest in it. If you insist on asking the question, I would answer.” Jessica mentioned that clothing and fashion wear was part of her job, and there was no such thing as pursuing. The most common type of clothing that Jessica had was jeans, followed by flat-soled shoes. There were around 10 pairs in her closet and she need not purchase more as she had enough. High heels were meant for work and she was not so stupid to torture her legs in her leisure time. She was not precise about their brand.

Yay! Finished watching "Phoenix Rising!" Not a bad series at all. Definitely enjoyable with an interesting plot line. However, it's leaving me very questionable about its ending. What happened?! Who fired the shot?! hmm...=/ For favorite scenes, I have plenty. For favorite episode, it has got to be episode 15. lol... If you've seen the series, you'll probably know which scene I'm talking about. Trying hard not to spoil it for anybody. =)

Finally moving on to the series I've been anticipating: "On the First Beat!"

Steven Ma, Linda Chung, and Elaine Yiu were filming a street scene in MongKok for TVB’s newest series “Golden Destiny” 《金石良緣》 last night, attracting over 100 bystanders nearby. The scene talks of Steven trying to persuade a run-away Linda to return home, but in order to escape, Linda shouted that she was being sexually harassed! Elaine comes out and dumps a trash basket on Steven’s head; allowing Linda to escape.

Filming with over 100 bystanders looking, Linda laughed and said it felt like a theater performance. “It’s so fun! Every expression or movement I make, the audience around would have a reaction for it, like live theater performance! Luckily, everyone cooperated and allowed us to finish filming without interruptions.”

Having filmed street scenes before with huge crowds looking on, Steven disclosed that this time was a piece of cake. “When I was filming at Lan Kwai Fong for “Entire City Dances” 《舞動全城》, we drew a crowd of over 300! The atmosphere was very wild and lively. This time, the audience cooperated really well with us, so when they requested a photo with me, I quickly agreed.” Because the scene required Steven to be shoved off by Linda and dumped on the head with a trash basket by Elaine, Steven ended up with a cut on the lip and scratches along the back of his hand. “It wasn’t their fault! It was actually the basket, it’s too small! In the series, my character gets beaten up and fooled by Linda all the time! Luckily, when girls film hitting scenes, they don’t use a lot of strength, so won’t have too many bruises.”

Joey's 2nd Hand Store runs out on inventories!

Yesterday was the opening of Joey Yung’s 2^nd Hand Clothing Shop. Since it was opening day, Joey’s fans were already outside waiting, completely crowding the hallways of the shopping center and emptying the store’s inventories! Accepting a telephone interview yesterday, Joey discloses that the first day of sales was up to 5-digits, with everyone able to receive $10,000 (HKD)! Joey had to quickly restock up the store’s inventory, bringing 6 more big bags of clothing from her own closet to the store last night. Seeing her clothes sold at discounted price, Joey indicated that her heart hurts a little as each article has a fond memory to it.

Read from the news that TVB's newest series: "Entire City Dances" 《舞動全城》 (unconfirmed title), starring Steven Ma, Bernice Liu, Matthew Ko, Kate Tsui, etc. will be replacing "Fathers & Sons" 《爸爸閉翳》 time slot on September 10th.

This is great news! But is TVB releasing this series a bit early? Seems like just a couple months ago, they just finished filming and now it's ready to be released?! Woah! Plus, Bernice's "Devil's Disciples" just finished airing recently and earlier this year "The Brink of Law" was released, too, starring Steven Ma & Kate Tsui. Mr. Hong Kong Contestants meet the MCs

This year’s “Mr. Hong Kong Contest 2007” will be broadcast live this Saturday at TVB studios. For the third consecutive year in a row, Dodo Cheng and Anna Yau will be the MCs of the night and pairing up with special guest MC, Maggie Cheung. Yesterday, the 3 ladies met with the 12 Mr. HK contestants as the men each did a short introduction of themselves, follow by a group picture. All 12 guys wanted to impress the MCs and started to strike poses during their introduction! Michael Chiu Kwok Tung tempted the ladies by fiddling with his shirt, while Leo Lee Ho tried to impress with his fondness of singing. Anna immediately told Leo “Don’t bother singing any of Lui Fong’s songs. In Dodo’s eyes, there’s no one who can sing better than Lui Fong.”

Upon arrival, all 3 MCs gave their own evaluation with this year’s Mr. HK candidates. Maggie said, “When I first saw them, they’re all better looking than what I anticipated. Educated and polite…this year’s candidates are pretty good.” Dodo indicates that she has been the MC for the past 2 Mr. Hong Kong contests and she, too, thought this year’s candidates were pretty good. “If we want a cute guy, we have a cute guy. If we want someone educated, we have someone educated. It’s pretty evenly spread out. There will definitely be some contest. I’m even bringing in 2 of my girlfriends to watch the show and to have a good time!" When asked Dodo what criteria she looks for in a guy, she said he has to be neat and clean first, and then look at the way he's dress.

Being the first time to host a Mr. Hong Kong contest and working opposite Dodo Cheung, Maggie doesn’t feel pressured at all. Instead, she’s treating it as a new experience, an opportunity to learn something new. When asked what her criteria were when looking for a guy, Maggie said: “I look at their inner beauty. Let say, to find a guy that’s cute or educated is pretty easy. But to find someone that meets all criteria is pretty hard to do. As for outer appearance, I always need to look into their eyes first. If their eyes reflect kindness and honesty, they’ll definitely get a extra point from me.”

Ada Choi left a message online earlier about her recent trip to Taiwan to promote for the series “Dance of Passion.” During her stay, Ada felt that she was treated unprofessionally by the media, as some of them don’t even know what her profession is! When posting up her thoughts, Ada referred to a portion of the media personnel as “doesn’t do research” people. “I know I’m not a huge celebrity, but I’m an artist that gives my best at every job that is given to me. The media should do the same thing! Inviting/interviewing guests without any preparations is like insulting them and your own profession! Technology is so advanced nowadays, just go online and there’s nothing one can’t find!” After Ada left her message online, many of her fans left messages to show their support.

Another incredulous incident happened to Ada during her stay was when she was in her hotel room sleeping, and a huge “CRACK!” sounded. At first, Ada thought it was just thunder, but when she went to investigate, broken glass pieces from her window littered the floor! Ada immediately called for hotel service to switch rooms, but was still able to witness the windows continually to crack open.

Current Disappointment & Obsession

Disappointment:
Man...can't believe it took me so long to finish watching "The Family Link," a short 21 episode series. Originally, I assumed it's going to be like like "La Femme Desperado", since it contains majority of the cast like: Sheren Tang, Michael Tse, Kenneth Ma, etc. Warning: Don't be fooled! I liked LFD, it was interesting and got better as the series progresses. I don't like TFL, it was interesting at the BEGINNING, but got draggy as the series progresses (my personal opinion of course). I was ready for it to end by episode 15, a definite first for any TVB series. Oh..wait...nvm, I forgot about "Men in Pain;" lasted only 5 episodes on that one! lol....

Anyways, it was the first time for me to watch a Cecilia Yip's series, and I think it may as well be my last. Argh...something about her (or her character) I just don't like, but can't exactly pinpoint it out. For those who have seen it, maybe you'll agree with me? Another person that really stood out to me was Michael Tse. Michael dollying around in female apparel throughout the last half of the series was really...interesting storyline by TVB? Too be honest, I had my eyebrows raised throughout those parts. hmm... =/

Obsession:
Just started on this series, and I am hooked on it already! The 1st episode captivates the audience (it did to me) with Louisa So's character being convicted and enters the life behind bars. The set for the prison was wonderfully constructed. It was dark, muggy, dirty, with just a hint of light penetrating from the crack ceilings from above. I like it! lol...very realistic. Especially have to give props to the casting of the other female convicts Louisa gets lock up with. They are so cool! Like Celine Ma. (Yeah...you guys might think I'm psycho by now. lol... )

Originally, I had no plans or interest in watching this series. I didn't find it appealing enough, plus I don't know who Krystal Tin was. So why bother?! But just take a look at its poster! Looks like a cover of a mystery/suspense novel with 2 elegantly dress ladies sitting on a settee in the front, but in the back there's a mirror reflecting their true inner beings (Louisa is stabbing Krystal in the back, both wearing prisoner's outfits). A shocked Leila hides behind the curtain, helpless to her sister's aide; while a frowning Sunny looks on but doesn't put the effort to rescue. Hints the plot of the series. lol...sorry, I'm thinking way way too deep. My imagination is just spinning like crazy. I guess my point about this series is clear for now. May do more posts later as I continue watching! =)

Swollen face Joey records for "We Are Ready"

Last night, Joey Yung was recording for the 2008 Beijing Olympic song, “We Are Ready,” sporting a face-mask. Having her wisdom teeth removed recently, Joey’s face appeared quite swollen and had to use a face-mask to cover up. Possibly, because of her toothache, Joey was very subtle throughout the night, but when asked if her toothache would cause any troubles for her in her recording, Joey impatiently answered, “I don’t know yet!” Joey did disclosed that her face has become bruised and swollen as of lately and that she’s been only able to consume mostly liquid and some soft food, leaving her rather hungry at times.

Over the past year, Maggie Cheung has taken some time off from filming, etc. and just this past May, Maggie filmed for a skincare ad, "unofficially" announcing her return to the entertainment industry. With rumors circulating through many artists of ATV's offer to sign them over and with her return to the circle, Maggie was ATV's latest target. However, couple of months ago, Maggie was already visited by TVB executive, Virginia Lok, urging her to stay and film for TVB's newest "Cold Encounters of the Third Kind" 《第三類暗戰》 , replacing the rumor-plagued Sonija Kwok.

Maggie at the end declined the role, explaining her body's not ready to film into the late-night hours just yet. Virginia Lok approached Maggie once again recently to offer as co-MC for this year's Mr. Hong Kong along side Dodo Cheng, which she immediately agreed. "I like to take the opportunity to thank you, Ms. Lok, for giving me this opportunity. I have always been interested in being a MC for shows. Besides, I'll be working opposite with Dodo, and with her there, it's definitely reassuring on part."

Sidney: Yay! Maggie's back! Can't wait to see her next month on the Mr. HK show. But her as a MC? She's a great as an actress, but...hmm...have to wait and see. I wonder if Anna Yau will be be joining Dodo 姐 and Maggie as the MCs.

Earlier, Jessica Hsuan and Joe Ma attended a function in Dongguan in support for legal, copyrighted materials. Since throughout China is airing TVB and CCTV’s joint production, “Drive of Life,” many fans that attended the function were ecstatic when they saw Jessica and Joe performed together, dubbing them as their most ideal onscreen couple!

Both Joe and Jessica sang songs and played games w/ the audience at the function. Because that day Jessica wore a suspended knit top, was she not afraid of accidental exposure? Jessica laughed and said, “I knew there’s going to be lots of people, so I have already taken all safety precautions necessary."

LIVE EARTH: The Concerts for a Climate in Crisis

Just finished reading the latest TVB ratings for the week (yeah, I know, it was posted up at the beginning of week and I just now saw it =P ). "On the First Beat," 《學警出更》 really isn't getting ratings that everyone (myself included) is expecting. Sure, an average of +/- 33 pts every week is good, but expected higher. "The Green Grass of Home" 《緣來自有機》on the other hand, got a peak of 37pts this past week! That's very impressive! I haven't started watching the series yet and was a bit iffy awhile back when TVB wanted to air it. lol..I guess I was wrong after all. It had a good cast and it's about environmental awareness. Why not watch it?! =)

A Better Tomorrow Concert

If you guys haven't found out yet, this past Sunday was the 10th Anniversary of Hong Kong's reunification with China. Since it is the 10th Anniversary, TVB & CCTV once again collaborated together to produce a series of concerts (basically a couple of different shows with a variety of top artists in the entertainment, well-known athletes, acrobats, etc. over this past weekend) to perform. The first one I finished: "A Better Tomorrow Concert" 《香港明天会更好: 庆祝香港回归十周年(同一首歌)大型演唱会》.

I really love concerts like these; so interesting and entertaining. However, there's a minor setback I didn't like. Everyone was speaking in Putonghua! lol... my comprehension of Mandarin is not very good. I can understand pretty well, but only if it's spoken at a slow pace. Luckily, throughout the show, Carol Cheng, Eric Tsang, and some CCTV hosts (I assumed) took turns MC-ing (Carol and Eric's mandarin were pretty slow, and once in awhile added a word or two of Cantonese in their dialogues. lol...made it a lot easier for me.)

For me, the best part of this concert (mainly because I'm most familiar to these artists) was when TVB artists came out to perform...or should I say lip-sync their songs. First up was, Patrick Tang & Anne Heung singing Beyond's hit "Glory Days" 《光輝歲月》. Very good song, an oldie with nice lyrics. I'm actually surprise to see Patrick Tang perform. I read from somewhere that he just recently re-signed with TVB and already he's...just there! Anne's pre-recorded voice sounds very husky in my opinion, but that's what she usually sounds like whenever she sings.

Next comes the cute couple, Raymond Lam and Bernice Liu singing a remix? version of Andy Lau's "The Days We Passed Together" 《一起走過的日子》. Raymond is just a great singer and wonderful to look at, but for some odd reason, I didn't like this performance. =/ lol...Bernice...looks great, good effort with the lip-syncing. If you guys read the news the past couple of days, TVB artists were struggling with their introductions of themselves in Putonghua, and Bernice was one of them. Poor her, she probably had no idea what was being said around her. However she did mustered out a "Wo ting bu dong" (我聽不懂) when Eric kept on bullying her. lol...kinda funny.

Shirley Yeung, Tracy Yip, along with Ray and Patrick performed Richie Ren's song "Girl Across the Way, Look Over Here" 《對面的女孩看過來》 (I love this song!). Based on my opinion only, I think Shirley did the best amongst the girls in singing. She sounded good to me! (shrugs) Earlier there were reports that Shirley was "frozen" by TVB, which I think is true. I'm assuming she should be on her way back pretty soon. Like Patrick Tang, she's there performing and representing TVB. The second song and last song that all six artist performed was Leehom Wang's "Descendants of the Dragon" 《龍的傳人》. I absolutely love this song. So no matter who sings it, I'll still like it. No comment there. =)

Today (if my tallies are correct) is day #25 of consecutive rainfall in my home state, day #18 here where I'm at. (sigh) Getting so tired of this weather. There's practically flooding on every road I drive! Traffic is slow, people are moody, and don't even get me started on the # of potholes I'd encountered. Crazy! lol...but on a brighter note, I finally got a pool in my backyard. It's not very deep, couple inches maybe, with free installation but it's the thought from Mother Nature that counts, right? Thank you! I'll try to enjoy it while it last. =)

Raymond sang the song "Vincent" solo before he paired up with Linda to sing their song "Sum Ling." Linda singing sounds pretty similar to the recorded studio version, bravo to her. Improvement. Raymond was just great eye candy to look at, didn't pay much attention to his singing (sigh) =D

Surprise of the night for me was Lee Si Kei . She can sing?! Yup! She definitely can. Although I watched her part a couple of times already, I still can't tell if she's singing live or it was pre-recorded already. hmm...either way, she was great.

The annual "Community Chest Charity Show" was held this past Saturday. Like all other charity shows, many artists and singers performed the night's entertainment to help raise more fundings. Despite what looks to be a star-studded night, which is, I can't help but feel it lacks more artists than previous charitable events; a repetition of performers. But then again...as always, it may be just me who feels that way. (shrugs) Anyways, here's a short (very short) recap of what took place that night: =)

The show started off with Hacken Lee and Joey Yung respectively leading some new artists: Vincy, Ivana, Deep, etc. to sing a song (or a couple of songs) reflecting the purpose of Community Chest charitable organization. Then Joey Yung had a duet Susanna Kwan. This duo was awesome! Joey, I knew already was a great singer, but Susanna Kwan, this was the first time I heard her sing (aside from "Hearts of Greed" theme song). She is good!

The cast of HOG appeared several times throughout the night; promoting HOG's climax finale for this coming week; used abalone as a theme to raise money ($168,000 HKD I believe), and performed the skit they (a pretty funny I might add). Fala Chan had a little performance herself for the night. She was able to have her hands stay firmly clasp together while circling her body with her hands like that. A very impressive sight, but a bit heart-wrenching for me. Fala was constantly rubbing her shoulder afterwards, possibly dislocated a shoulder or something to perform that stunt. What's worst: the MCs even suggested Fala to perform it again just so the audience can see it more clearly! Poor Fala. lol...kinda funny how the camera guy kept on swinging the camera back to Stephen Chan as he sits at ease, smiling, and looking on. The hardships of working with TVB. (shakes head)

A rare appearance by Idy Chan and Teresa Cheung really made me look forward to watching this show. It's practically a "Return of the Condor Heroes 83" reunion! All we needed was Andy Lau! But instead we got Leon Lai to perform instead. Leon was the last to perform for the night, singing remixes of all 4 Heavenly Kings' infamous songs. Personally, I didn't really like the way he sang it; not a fan of remixes.

Btw, there was a segment that included Vincy Chan, Raymond Cho, Louis Yuen, and Wong Cho Lam. The segment wasn't all that funny and not one of my favorites for the show, however there was Wong Cho Lam in it. Personally, I think he's a great. Started noticing him in "Best Selling Secrets" as Lau Wah, and now he's impersonating TVB's general manager Stephen Chan. Did a pretty good job. I just think he's quite talented. Just passing along some of my thoughts here. =)

Back into the Life of Blogging

It feels so weird coming back to this blog and actually typing up a post. lol...I'd been gone way too long. My brain empty, with no ideas of a post. Although I blame it entirely on all the finals I had to take. (shudders) What horror they were to me! But they're all over! Yay!

Summer officially started for me last Friday, but still had lots to do this past weekend before I can get back into my TVB life. First, there was a graduation I had to attend, which turned out to be a nightmare for my feet. Had to slip on some heels (2+ inches I might add) for most of part of the day, but that was not the worst part. Worst thing was I had to slowly, slowly, slowly make my way down the endless flight of stairs to where my mom saved some seats for us. I swear, I was about to fall flat on my face and roll down the rest of the way. Dude, the auditorium was huge and the stairs was steep! They could have at least installed a couple more railings for people like me, who doesn't wear heels unless it's absolutely crucial! (sigh) lol...yeah, a little bit embarrassing on my behalf, but that's the real me! =D And of course there was Mother's Day this past Sunday, too (I hope everyone remembered to give your mom a present, some flowers, or like me, just a hug ;-) It's the thoughts that really counts).

Since I haven't collected my thoughts together for a post yet (at least I have an idea on what's it going to be about), there's not much of an update today. Just here, stopping by to say "hi" and let everybody know I'm still alive. Changed my banner up top to catch the attentions of you guys, basically saying "I'm back!" hehe... =) Love Bernice & Moses as a couple. They're so cute together. Yesterday evening, CHANEL held a special cocktail party at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel to display their latest multi-million jewelry collection 「 Les Essentiels」. Attracting many famous celebrities to attend, including: Paulyn Sun, Priscilla Chan, Jessica Hsuan, Chow Kai Bong & his wife were also present.

Jessica revealed that she has always liked this brand and keeps a small collection of jewelry herself. When asked if her boyfriend(s) ever presented her with a diamond ring, Jessica said, “Rings shouldn’t be accepted so hastily. But I did receive a necklace before from my previous boyfriend.”

Out of TVB; Into HK Movies

Finally, I’m finished watching “Slicing of the Demons” this past weekend. Was a pretty good series to watch, but towards the end got a little bit draggy (again) and confusing. The whole plot and the characters were great (love Michael Tse), but I still managed to get lost a couple of times! lol…had to re-watch the episode over again. Overall, I would recommend SOTD for others to watch, but just the ending…ehh…you guys just had to watch it and see for yourselves. =)

What’s up next for me? Umm…I’m thinking about taking a break from TVB series. Yes, I’m actually saying this: me, Sidney, taking a break from TVB series. lol…very weird & awkward for me to say that. Anyways, I’m switching to watch some HK films for awhile. Been feeling very unsatisfied w/ all the series I’m watching lately; watching too much TVB series I am assuming. Maybe some time away will help clear my mind and refresh my inspiration on TVB. (shrugs)

First movie on my list: “Protégé” (門徒). Just got a copy of it recently, so might as well start off w/ it. “Protégé” premiered earlier this year, starring Andy Lau, Daniel Wu, Louis Koo, Anita Yuen, and JingChu Zhang. It’s been awhile since I last saw Louis starring in anything, so would be great to see him again. Downfall: heard that his role was very minimal, almost pointless. Hmm…not something I want to hear. But I don’t know; I’ll see how it goes.

Movie I really want to see: “Love is Not All Around” (十分愛) starring Stephy Tang, Alex Fong, Linda Chung, Sammy, Hins Cheung, etc. (Movie trailer above) Yes, I admit. I’m a total Stephy and Alex fan here. Watched them in “Marriage w/ a Fool” and was hooked. LINAA seems to be the sequel of it, as I heard Alex referred to Stephy as “Ah Bo” (her name in MWAF) in the trailer, so crosses fingers. Besides, it stars Linda Chung, too. Can’t seem to break my ties w/ TVB. lol… ;-) While that’s just now premiering, it’ll be awhile before I can get a copy. So how about you guys? Any good recommendations for me?

TVB desperate to bring up its ratings

TVB’s ratings have been relatively low these past couple of weeks. Why? Well, each current airing series has had one complaint about them or another. “War & Destiny” (亂世佳人) was allegedly accused that the storyline of the series does not match the actual historical contexts during WWII; maintaining an average of 30+/- pts in ratings. “Life Art’s” (寫意人生) mostly had Kevin’s singing the themesong to complain about; ratings even lower than WAD’s. And last but not least, “Best Selling Secrets," TVB's newest sitcom, where the ratings are dropping by the week. What could TVB do to salvage back this past couple weeks' lost? Well, as the saying goes, desperate time calls for desperate measures.

Since WAD still has 2 more weeks of airing before its finale, let's talk about the others. BSS is truly lacking...an element to captivate the audience to watch it daily. There really is not much of a plot, other than Esther Kwan is Vin Choi's mother that he doesn't know about. That's it. Not too sure how "Welcome to the House's" per episode went, but for BSS, every episode is a new story w/ new problems that get resolve in the 20 minute it's being broadcast. That's something new, but just very random imo. Maybe that's why it's not drawing a strong audience? (shrugs) TVB's method to boost its ratings: special 20 second guest appearance of Bernice Liu.

Bernice literally appeared in Episode 18 (April 5th; Thursday night) for 20 second, starring as herself. Her character just "randomly" showed up at a restaurant to thank James (Rocky Cheng) for a wonderful commercial he did w/ her cat, Baby. Little bit off topic here, but to my knowledge, Bernice doesn't have a pet cat. Doesn't she just have 2 dogs, Mac and Baily? lol...hope w/ Bernice 20 second drop-in (I think she was just on her way home or switching in-between sets) would help boosts BSS ratings a bit more this week. However, I highly doubt it's going to receive anything over the average of 27pts. =/

I think TVB had high expectations for LA since it starred: Kevin Cheng & Gigi Lai. But it turns out to be only average series. Nothing to be impress about. Time to move in some heavy artilleries aka "Heart of Greed" to be air. Everyone (myself included) is getting really excited; setting our expectations real high. Just look at the cast! Definitely something to be impress about. BUT! If I were TVB, I'll be a tad worry for the unexpected. Like I said, the cast is one of the reason it attracts so many people's interest towards it. Last time we saw Moses Chan was in "Land of the Wealth" and that series had great expectations for it, too. It turns out to be average and occasionally a bit boring on parts. (eek!) Raymond Lam and Bosco Wong tends to do a lot better when they each have their own separate series airing (Ray: LFD; Bosco: DB), but do you guys remember the last time they collaborated together what happened? TVB obviously forgot, better refresh their memory (clears throat) "Leathal Weapons of Love and Passion." lol...let's hope it doesn't happen again. =) This should be Yoyo Mung and Linda Chung's 2nd time collaborating together since "Forensic Heroes" where back then they had the highest ratings of the year! But again, when starring individually, series was just only average. Could they pull off another FH rating w/out the guaranteed-rating Bobby Au Yeung w/ them? Risky combination of cast here by TVB, but I think we're all willing to give HOG a chance right? =D

"Best Selling Secret," an equivalent to "Virtues...?"

Spring Break was this past week for me. Didn’t really do anything special. Went to work, hung out w/ friends, and most importantly had the time to start up a new series. hehe… =D Currently on my playlist: “Slicing of the Demons” but in-between, I am also keeping up w/ the latest airing sitcom “Best Selling Secrets” 《同事三分親》. BSS has aired for 2 weeks already w/ 11 episodes released. First week’s ratings averaging about 30 pts, not too shabby. While the 2nd week dropped 4 pts, averaging about 26 pts! That’s a huge drop from its debut week, but will this last?

I read from forums that many are getting weary w/ BSS already. Can’t really blame them for it. Well first off, this sitcom isn’t entirely funny. Sort of…like dry humor funny. If you get it, you get it. If not, then…(shrugs) you just don’t. Occasionally, I find myself cracking a smile, while the rest of the time, I just sit there and watch it religiously despite how ridiculous some parts may be. Don’t get me wrong, I’m liking this sitcom. 20 minutes flies by just like that (snaps)! But I just wish the storyline could improve a bit more. Hopefully I’ll be surprise in the weeks to come.

Last minute thoughts: Does this sitcom remind anyone of “Virtues of Harmony II?” Both series on parts, revolves around the office area, the bickering/teasing of colleagues, family life, etc. etc. Even some casts’ personality from BSS are based from VOH!

Examples are: Roger Wong Sheung (played by Lau Daan) in replace by Geoffrey Wong Chi Hung (aka Vincent in the sitcom). Both men are the head of their companies respectively, easy to get along with, and are players type of men.

VOH had the very funny Athena Man Gwai Fei played by Stephanie Che, while BSS has the serious and manipulative, Diana Dai On Na played by Alvina Kong. Both ladies are hated by every employee under them, and is able to manipulate situations in favor to them, especially in Roger/Vincent's perspective.

Final thoughts over "Devil's Disciples"

Finished watching Devil’s Disciples (強劍) this past weekend. Like everyone else, I wasn’t please w/ its ending at all. What in the world was w/ the dancing and the singing at the end?!! lol…my gosh…this series started pretty nicely; funny & addictive to watch. But the more episodes I finished, everything went downhill from there! I say starting around episode 3, it goes bad. Storyline, cast, ending, etc. etc. Blah!

The Pairings:

Originally, I thought I the pairing of Bernice & Bosco would be cute and fresh, but somehow their chemistry just didn’t work. It was sorta…weird? Bernice looks too mature for Bosco in my opinion. mmm… =/ Although, I would love for them to end up together at the end, but when that didn’t happen (one of the major shockers of the series), I wasn’t as disappointed as I originally predicted. But definitely, my sympathy goes toward Bernice. Poor her...and Shirley Yeung, too. (all Bosco's fault!)

Kevin & Sharon’s relationship developed very nicely, surprisingly. Their chemistry clicked! Even though this was their… 3rd? time collaborating (was a couple in “Trimming Success” and “Better Halves”), I’m going to give all credits to Sharon’s character, Mok Mun on why I like them so much. Sharon’s character was the most interesting out of the whole cast! She’s supposedly the semi-evil villain, but we loved and pity her from the beginning to the end. If TVB airs DD later in the year, Sharon Chan is high on my list for winning the Most Improved Actress award at the anniversary. (sorry, Bernice, performance wasn’t as great)

Did you noticed or was it just me?:

Did you guys noticed that in the first couple of episodes there was some scenes of Bosco’s that relates to some of his previous series, the memorable parts.

1.) “War of the In-Laws” episode 1 = “Devil’s Disciples” episode 1

The amusing opener for WOIL where Bosco’s “Ling Mau Chun” character had to participate and climb to the top of stack chairs to win the hand of girl in marriage. Bosco’s “Sing Fung” character had to do the same stunt, but the reward is money instead. Both series, Bosco was forced/persuaded by his mother to participate.

2.) “Under the Canopy of Love” episode 2 = “Devil’s Disciples” episode 3

First time Bosco and Kevin’s collaborating together was in last year’s “Under the Canopy of Love” series. For those who saw the series, remember how they met? lol…if you guys don’t, it was at the gym and in the sauna. Scene similar to in DD’s where the 2 had to stay overnight dipped in freezing water as a punishment. A complete change in temperature but the same humorous effect, don’t you think? ;-)

Expectations on TVB's newest airing series?

Today, TVB officially released couple of new series to everyone's delight (myself included; Yay!) either overseas or airing on Jade Channel. Just sharing some of my expectations/thoughts from the synopsis I read of each. =)

After being cramped up inside a "house" for so long, its about time we take a breath of fresh air and go back to the office life shall we. Replacing "Welcome to the House's" time slot on Jade channel @ 8 is the new sitcom: "Best Selling Secrets" (同事三分親), starring Esther Kwan, Alvina Kong, Elaine Kam, Stephen Au, Vin Choi, Angela Tong, etc.

Before I read the actual synopsis for this series, I was absolutely excited about its airring? Why? Its the debut of Esther Kwan returning to TVB after 7 years! Can it get any better than that?! Also, this series also marks Alvina Kong's return to acting. With these 2 actresses starring in a series, hands down, I'll definitely be interested in watching it. However, after reading the synopsis, hesitation does occur. This series lacks some attraction on its storyline. And it also in need of a dominant male lead that could be pair up to either Esther or Alvina (the same problem "Women on the Run" had during its short run as a TVB sitcom). Real interested on how well this series would go from there.

This series also marks the debut of Elaine Kam after hopping over from ATV to here. Personally, I don't like her. But that may be a bit to harsh since I'd only seen her in one series: Central Affairs II (情陷夜中环 2). Her character in CA2 was awful! And a little annoying, too. Hopefully this series would change my thoughts about her. *crosses fingers*

"Life Art" (寫意人生 ) replaces "Best Bet's" time slot @ 9:30 pm today; starring veteran actor, Paul Chun, along w/ Kevin Cheng, Gigi Lai, Queenie Chu (her debut series), Astrid Chan, etc. "Best Bet" really did bad on its ratings over the past couple of weeks. Is it because it aired so late in the evening? Or did everyone got tired of Linda's pitching voice? hmm...lets see if Gigi can make a difference in her ratings.

"Supposedly," LA is a comedy stated by Kevin, but I don't see any humor reflecting on the storyline. More like a short 20 epis series regarding life, inspiration, and hope. For some odd reason, when I think of this series, it reminds me a lot of TVB's 2001 series: "Invisible Journey" (彩色世界), starring Jessica Hsuan, Bowie Lam, Joyce Tang, Raymond Cho, etc. Jess and Gigi, because of an accident, has to readjust their lives to continue on in society in a positive attitude (Jess was blind; Gigi lost usage of right hand). Bowie and Kevin's character lives in a fast pace life and after meeting their optimistic female lead, they completely change. And of course, the girlfriends, Joyce (Bowie's) & Queenie (Kevin's), who comes in to make the storyline more complicated. Same...same...

Newest series release overseas is "The Slicing of Demons" ( 凶城計中計), starring Sunny Chan, Michael Tse, Bernice Liu, Angela Tong, etc. What is up w/ TVB! My gosh! 2 series in row released overseas of Bernice's! I shouldn't be complaining, since its in my favor, but still. Poor Bernice. hmph!

TSOD's storyline sounds very complicated for my little & simple mind to probably comprehend, but the cast does looks tempting for me watch after DD. Sunny pairing up w/ Bernice, Michael and Sunny are bff. hmm...simple enough for now. Wonder what Angela's character has to do w/ anything in this series, as she is now one of the main leads. One of the main things that attracted me to this series, besides Bernice, is this quote: "A man's heart is past finding out. You never know who is your real enemy" (TVB program highlights). Very mysterious and suspenseful. lol...just this quote itself is enough to make me paranoid of the people around me! hehe...anyways, it's sounds like a major spoiler of series, but still: can't wait! =)

Ten Brothers: Is it that good?

Sidney's little ramble: "Hi guys! So sorry! It's already the 6th of March, and I'm now making my first post of the month! Eeks! Truly slacking off around here. But I have an excuse! First off, my router is still down at home, so my time online is very limited. Don't really like hanging around campus too long if I don't have class or work to go to. (sigh) What a hassle for me to go through just to check my emails, submit homework, post on blog, etc. etc."

Anyways, TVB's current airing series, "Ten Brothers" (十兄弟) seems to be doing a fantastic job in keeping up w/ it ratings; achieving an average of 34 pts and peaking at 37 pts. That's beating the very promoted series, "Best Bet" (迎妻接福) by a mile! And it was previously a warehouse series, too! lol...funny, interesting and pretty impressive.

I haven't had the the chance to watch TB yet when it first came out overseas. But then again, I didn't really want to. For most parts, it was because I'm not a real fan of all the extra computer graphics added (one of the downfalls I found in DD currently), plus the costumes of the cast looking a bit odd. However, since the ratings are so high and I heard numerous praises for it, should I change my opinion and give it a try after I finish "Devil's Disciples?"

"Ten Brother", I believe, is the only series left of TVB starring Kenix Kwok. Since it's doing so well, I really can't help but notice that Kenix's status w/ TVB and the HK viewers in general are relatively still strong despite not seeing her for so long (Kenix's last aired series was "A Pillowcase of a Mystery;" almost exactly 1 yr. ago). When compared her to the recent aired TVB series, "The Brink of Law" w/ the new generation fai daans: Bernice Liu, Shirley Yeung, & Kate Tsui, & the currently series: "Best Best" w/ Linda Chung, Kenix's series can really surpass them all! Ratings? Yup! Acting? Umm...I'm pretty sure, yes on that, too. lol...however, when compared to Jessica Hsuan's "Dicey Business," they're about equal, don't you think? ;-)

The Brink of Law: For the Good or for the Worse?

*Warning II: This is purely based on my opinion & my thoughts. Please don't take my bashing of your artists to heart. =) *

Just finished "The Brink of Law" a couple days ago. Okay, more like a week or 2 ago. I was just too busy to do a little post about it, plus my internet at home isn't working right now (thumps router). So, if you catch me online, most likely I'm on campus, despite how late in the evening it is. (sigh) Anyways, one word to sum up TBOL: good! But for to what extent?

The Cast (the good):

TVB is doing great this year, airing series w/ an amazing cast ensemble put together. And "The Brink of Law" is one of them. Everyone's (almost everyone) acting, chemistry, facial expression, hand gestures are perfect. ( lol...yeah...I'm just making these up here. I have no clue what I'm really talking about, just that I like it!). My favorite character: Michelle Yim's Sung Gum Jee. She is awesome! Unlike other typical TVB series, where the villain is reveal later in the storyline, Michelle's background or her evilness is unveil in Episode 1. I kinda like that. Less I have to think about who's the bad guy.

Shirley Yeung's character is very similar to Michelle's, but for the worse. I meant her character. Not a bad performance for Shirley, despite her 1st time acting in as an evil character. Definitely a convincing role for me.

Elliot Yue, I had no clue whatsoever who he was before I watched this series, just that he does bares a rather strong resemblance to my uncle! lol..I may be just hallucinating here & wanting a veteran actor as an uncle. hehe...anyway, I really like him. He's a great actor. Possibly it's just me: but w/ him there in some scenes that features Ron, Kate, or Bernice w/ him, it just makes the whole scene much better. Brings their character out a bit more.

Steven Ma: no need to comment about him. He's just awesome!

The Not so Good Performances:

Like I mention: Ron, Kate, & Bernice. Their characters are so...unconvincing! Still! Ron, I expected more out of him, since he's been around for awhile now, and I thought he could be better. But I really can't see any improvements that others mentioned! Sorry! I'm beginning to wonder if it was his character that I don't like and not Ron himself. hmm...(scratches chin) No, I think it's still Ron! ;-) TBOL is Kate's 2nd series that I finished watching. Besides that her hairstyle looks similar to her LFD's Ida character and her acting is about the same, too. I really can't find anything much to say about Kate, other than she's ANNOYING! My gosh! I'm avoiding Kate Tsui at all cost, that is, until "First Beats" airs. (Joey fan here).

Bernice is stunning in this series, like any of her series. Very mature and stylish. But her acting is still not up to par. Expressionless on some scenes. Her Chinese improved immensely, so gave her some credit there.

Favorite Moments:

all Michelle Yim and Stephen Wong scenes; especially the way he died. So sad!
the bickering between Michelle Yim & Elliot Yue
Steven Ma & Ha Yue's father-son relationship
Steven & Bernice's scene; very cute

Should you give TBOL a try? I would say most definitely "YES." However, if you find yourself pressing the "Fast Forward" button once in awhile, don't worry. It's a natural reaction. *cough* especially during the Ron & Kate's scenes *cough*

News article that just made my day

Kinda late posting my comments now but still wanted to do it. Couple days ago, Em @ TVB Space translated an article about Kate Tsui and Ron Ng being voted as the worst onscreen couple on a discussion board. After reading about it, I couldn't help but laughed out loud for a good couple of minutes. Why? Well, because I 100% whole-heartedly agrees w/ them. They really are terrible!

Everyone knows (almost everyone) that I'm not too thrill w/ Ron & his acting. Kate...I wasn't too happy w/ her performance in LFD; overacted in numerous scenes. But I still took the chance and watched them together in "The Brink of Law," which btw, I'm loving it (the series, not them). Am I enjoying their individual screen times? Nope! Am I enjoying their screen time as a couple? Nope! Am I enjoying their chemistry as a couple? Nah...something about them just isn't clicking on their performances in TBOL. I may be picky about them. (true) And I may be bias. (also true) But I don't think TVB should pair them up together any time soon. Believe me, Ronate is just not meant to be as a good couple. (shakes head)

"Best Bet:" Good Themesong, Bad Themevideo

"Best Bet" (迎妻接福) started airing yesterday; replacing the time slot of "The Brink of Law." I haven't started on this series yet (not sure if I would later), but I saw the theme video from Metal's blog, so just sharing my thoughts about it. First off, I'm really enjoying the themesong! The tune is so catchy, the lyrics are cute, and Linda Chung really did a great job singing it. Really surprised me that it was just Linda singing solo, instead of a duet w/ Michael Tse. Michael can sing! TVB gave him the male lead role, might as well give him a part in the themesong, too. (sigh) But I'm not complaining that much of the final product.

Too bad I can't really say the same thing about the themevideo though, since it's so...I don't how how to describe it. Cut and paste? Paper Mario style? The old style Batman with all the "Booms" & "Pows!" huh....something along that range of thoughts. Really makes me wonder if the video was produced by the same guy who made the hideous New Year's card of the cropped artists' head on piggy bodies. Eek!

What's going on in Sidney's life...

My life has been hectic lately. Lots to do, but so little time. Everything seems to be cramming in at once. It's getting pretty frustrating around here. But here's a brief rundown of my lack of updates (excuses, excuses, excuses...) :

1.) Exams; exams have come around once again. Nothing new, but definitely something I need to worry about. (sigh)

2.) Illness; I'd been sick for 3 weeks consecutively. It's not fun and I'm tired of taking medicine. I starting to think I'm more immune to them than the flu that's flying around! geez!

3.) I'm going to CHINA! Yay! That's is, I'm going to China this summer for a study abroad program. hehe...how fun! Going there to work on my putonghua. (Ni hao!) Anyways, nothing is finalized yet, but I'm crossing my fingers. =D Any fan of mine from China? Hi hi!! =)

4.) Reality shows; TVB hasn't been all that exciting to me lately (surprising, especially coming from me), so I switched over and turned on my television set instead. Reality shows are popping up lately, and I'm a loving it! "Beauty & the Geek," "American Idol," "Survivor: Fiji," and the newest seasons of "Amazing Race: All Stars" & "America's Next Top Model" coming soon! My life will be revolving around them, so an early apology if I really slack off from updating. =)

TVB Related:

I'd started on "The Brink of Laws" recently and it's good! Not surprising, since so many of my favorite artists are starring in it! =) Did I ever mention that I love it's themesong?! Well, if I haven't, I love it! Go Steven!...and Ron, too. I'll be nice to him, since he really did a pretty good job singing this time around. Speaking of Ron, I find his role as "Leo" very unconvincing so far. He's too nice! Does anyone happen to think the same way? But then again, I just started, so I might change my mind about him later. Well, that's all for now; possibly more updates of my 2cents of "TBOL" later as I continue watching. Hopefully this week's ratings surpass 35 pts, better than previous weeks, since it's the series finale. Go go go!!

Bernice saves Steven from harm

We hear the term “hero saving a damsel in distress” often, but how about “a damsel saving a hero” instead? Earlier, Bernice Liu and Steven Ma were filming for their newest series: “The Entire City Dances” 《舞動全城》 for a car accident scene in which Bernice runs out to save Steven from being hit by a car. Without using a stunt person or any safety padding, Bernice dove out and pushed Steven away from a fast approaching car, with her head hitting the rear of the car, acting exactly like a stunt personnel herself! Her courageousness is definitely worth praising.

Bernice and Steven paired up as a couple in “The Brink of Law,” 《突圍行動》 and in their new action/dancing series “The Entire City Dances”, they will once again reunite as a couple onscreen. Earlier the two were in filming at Sai Wan Ho for a car accident scene when the director wanted to try a newer version of “hero saving a damsel in distress;” having the female saving the male instead!

The scene talks about how Steven carelessly runs out into the street, and meets up with fast approaching traffic. Bernice pushes him to safety, but in the end, gets hit by the car herself! During filming, Bernice declined the usage of a stunt; wanting to personally film the scene. After hearing the instructions and practiced a couple of times, Bernice was ready to go. First, the vehicle will brush Bernice to the ground; then her head will bounce off the rear side of the car. Because the scene was film so realistically, it attracted quite a crowd to standby and watch.

Bernice is still recuperating from a cold she had earlier, leaving her voice rather hoarse. Seeing her in such conditions, the director tried to give Bernice as few dialogues as possible, such as this scene where Bernice just needs to cry out Steven’s character name. But because of Bernice’s hoarse voice, the scene will probably need to be dubbed later.

When asked about how it feels to be the hero and saving Steven, Bernice laughed aloud and said, “I know! Isn’t it supposed to be the male saving the female instead? But it was OK. Reversing the situation makes me feel very heroic!”

Louis has surprise ready for Kay on Valentine's Day

Yesterday, Kay Tse had an autograph signing session for her newest CD “The First Day” at Tuen Mun; attracting over 200 fans present. Kay said she is not worry about her fans acting wildly around. “They are all very cooperative and understanding. Some, automatically, becoming my bodyguards, too!” Already 5 months pregnant, Kay has already gained 20 lbs. and scheduled herself into a private hospital whenever she gives birth; hoping to avoid any clashing with another pregnant woman over a bed during labor.

Since this year would be the first Valentine’s Day spend as husband and wife, Kay’s husband, Louis Cheung, specially arranged for a surprise for his wife. Previously, because the couple did not set a reservation at a restaurant last year, they had to celebrate Valentine’s Day at a cafe diner.

Bernice Liu attended computer promotional event for Lenovo yesterday. Since it was her second year as spokesperson for the company, the pay was ideally good. When asked if she uses MSN often, Bernice revealed that since most of her family resides out of the country, she often uses it to chat with her sister at night.

With Valentine’s Day coming up soon, Bernice revealed that she has to film for “The Entire City Dances” that day. “For the past couple of years, I spent my Valentine’s Day at work, so I’m pretty much used to it.” Did you buy any gifts for anyone? “No. In foreign countries, the male buys the gift for the female. I’m more accustomed not giving out any gifts that day.”

Yup, that's the question that lies within everyone's head right now. Or for most people... MetalAZNWarrior aka Metal has been missing for over a week now, and no one seems to know exactly where he is?! A little unbelievable and sad, but it's true. Metal has been abducted from us! I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing. hmm... (scratches chin) J/K!!! I'm not THAT mean to him! lol... Metal, if you're reading this, why aren't you revealing yourself to us? We miss you! Yeah...it's "we," meaning I miss you, too. Remember, you have an obligation to entertain us with your satirical pieces! Contract signed and everything. If you need to refresh your memory, watch VOH episode 399 (hint..hint..hint...). Hope to hear from you soon...using your real username! ;-)

Speaking of Metal, I have to take the time to thank him for providing many numerous episodes of "Virtues of Harmony II" episodes for me to watch. Well, not just me, for any VOH fan out there that hasn't had the opportunity to finish the series in his VOH Forum. =) I'd finished "Dicey Business" for quite some time now, and was just about to start "The Brink of Law," but instead, I'm watching VOH II once again. "Virtues..." can be a very addictive series to watch, with it's episode lasting approximately 20+ min/episode. Which leaves me wanting more! (1 of the reasons I petition Metal to come back!). hehe... =P

Linda Chung hasn't been on my good side lately, especially for the past couple of series I saw her in. Nothing so special. But something about her "Hung Bak Lam" character in VOH II is so intriguing. I'm assuming it's because of her chemistry with Steven Ma, that's making it so captivating to watch. hmm... Really can't blame Metal for loving them so much! I'm liking this pair, too. Aren't they cute? (pic above) Oh dear god, I am turning into to MetalAZNWarrior here; talking so much about VOH! Yikes! =/ Hope my little post today will encourage TVB Musing's webmaster to show up online once again. Cheers!

Good day, everybody. Haven't been online much lately, much less update TVB Sidsation. hehe...oops. So unlike me! =P Spring semester had officially started back up for me last week. (whippee...) Had to spend some time getting used to waking up early again. (sigh) The cold front that blew into my home state couple of weeks ago left me with a rather serious flu this past couple of days. Feeling fine right now, nothing a little DayQuil wouldn't do. I'm up and about, so TVB Sidsation should be getting regular updates of my commentaries running once again. Hope to gain back all my readers during my absence!

Was reading today's daily update of entertainment news on Em's site, and happen to stumble upon this picture of Hacken Lee. Is it just me or did Hacken grew wings? lol...cute, but the Mr. Chicken is wanting them back now.

TVB's 25th Annual "Top Ten JSG Award Presentation" was couple nights ago, and I finished watching it while trapped inside my house. Yes, it's trapped. A big snow/blizzard/freezing rain/sleet swept across where I lived. Can't go anywhere since it was unsafe to drive, much less walk down the driveway. So I lived on instant noodles, rice, canned corn & meat for 3-4 days straight. (shudders) Anyways, after I was finished, I was a bit confused with what I saw. This year's show was not as great as I expected it to be or in other word: it's crappy! Come on, TVB, this is your 25th annual JSG award presentation, put some effort into it! One major thing I want complain about was the stage. Nothing grand at all, very plain looking compared to previous years. (sigh)

As many news source noted, this year's number of artist showing up at the award presentation had significantly decreased to an unbelievable amount. I was shocked. Umm...did they forget to come? It was January 13th, 2007 right? I had it right and was there, but I guess the lots of artists just decided not to show up. Who wasn't there? Let see...: Ronald Cheng, Edmond Leung, Kary Ng, Deep Ng, Andy Hui, Jordan Chan, Niki Chow, Toby Leung, Ella Koon, Jade Kwan...just to name a few. Besides, even if the artists were present, will they get the recognition they deserve?

As many "originally" expected (myself included), Leo Ku would come away at the end of the night as the Favorite Male Singer of 2006. BUT...to the surprise of many, he didn't. Eason Chan came away with the prize of the night instead. I wasn't terribly disappointed, as I didn't think Leo's "Love Too Late" (愛得太遲) deserved all the recognition it received. It was an okay song. I got used to it as it was played often when my brother is around me and came to like it. Felt really bad for Leo though on the "trick" TVB played on him. Arranging for Vivian Chow (Leo Ku's good friend) to present the Favorite Male Singer award, but not too him. Tricked the audience, tricked the fans, tricked me, and of course, tricked Leo. Leo must had been disappointed.

Again, as many expected, Miriam Yeung's chances in snagging the Favorite Female singer of the year award was very low. Very true and good prediction everyone! She didn't win. But she didn't win anything throughout the night either. No matter how many news source stated how good of a sportsmanship Miriam showed (which I whole heartedly agree), I'm sure she was disappointed seeing everyone around her getting up and receiving their awards. Heart wrenching night for her, but Miriam, the best of luck in the year of 2007. I'll support you. =)

Bernice Liu took home JSG's "Outstanding Newcomer" Award of the night. Hard for me to agree, but I, too, believe this award was rigged myself. Where in the world did this award come from? Out in the blue. What difference is it from the "Most Favorite Newcomer" Award? Not much. Who to blame? TVB. Why? I have one conclusion: TVB presented a total of 45 awards throughout the night. If they left out the award won by Bernice, it'll then be 44 awards total. 44...not a good number. Superstitious matters of course. Poor Bernice having to suffer the criticizing from everyone, but I she was really happy when it was presented to her. Singing wasn't great at all, but can't say she was disappointed that night.

I wasn't surprised that Miriam Yeung didn't received the Favorite Female singer award. I was semi-surprised that Leo lose out to Eason Chan. But I was most surprised that Kelly only won 1 award throughout the whole night! Unbelievable! She didn't even get one of the "10 Ten Gold Song award!" No offense to any of Twins' fans out there reading my post, but I don't think they should have won for the song: "You're not a Good Lover" (你不是好情人). It's not right and not fair! But then again, like Andy Lau said, "Award shows is not down to "fairness" nor "unfairness" anymore. Just regulations and non-regulations." Who set's up these regulations? Why of course the broadcasting network, or in this case, TVB. Yes, I am disappointed with TVB right now, but all I can do is hope for a better show next year. I HOPE!

2006 HK Music not up to Par

TVB’s 25th Annual “Top 10 JSG Award Presentation 2006” 《2006年度十大勁歌金曲頒獎典禮》 is tomorrow night, January 13. Like every year, TVB will present the top 10 favorite songs over the year to a variety of artists, along with the Favorite Male & Female singer award; Favorite Newcomer; Commercial songs, Mandarin songs, Golden Song, etc. etc. Lots awards will be given out that night, and all I’m hoping for is just a good show to watch.

One way or another, I think I had the opportunity to listen to all 58 songs posted up on TVB.com in having an opportunity to snag a Top 10 song slot. Some of them are great! Some of them only okay. While some was just…lets just say…I wasn’t terribly thrilled with.

My favorites this year:

1) Stephanie Cheng- “Red Light Green Light” (紅綠燈)
2) Andy Lau- “Open My Eyes” (張開眼睛)
3) Joey Yung- “Splendid Unexpected Meeting” (華麗邂逅)
4) Eason Chan- “Under Mt. Fuji” (富士山下)
5) Denise Ho- “Bright Meeting” (光明會)
6) Janice Vidal- “Run Away from Home” (離家出走)
7) Justin Lo- “Love Song” (情歌)
8) Kelly Chen- “Severs Completely” (一刀两断)
9) Leo Ku- “Love Too Late” (爱得太迟)
10) Miriam Yeung- “Big Silly” (大傻)
11) Ivana Wong- “Poem’s Passion” (詩情)

Although my list of favorites can go on and on, but I’m not completely satisfied with this year’s performances. Compared to the previous years, this year was ehh! One artist in particular was Hacken Lee’s. Always been a favorite of mine, but just not this time around. Same thing goes with Joey Yung. I would expect better songs from her and EEG, but I guess not. I still like Joey, she’s great and her song “Splendid Unexpected Meeting” (華麗邂逅) was good, too. Just expected something better with Joey’s standards. The underdogs would just surpassing them one award at a time if this keeps up. (sigh)

My current favorites: Stephanie Cheng, Janice Vidal, Justin Lo, and Ivana Wong. They are amazing. Surprisingly, for me to discover I like Stephanie Cheng a lot. Her singing is really not that bad and her album “Honey” is good, too. I would recommend it. Janice Vidal and Justin Lo were the Favorite Male/Female newcomers winners last year and their popularity has risen immensely since then. Not really much of a surprise there since their songs are good, they both can really sing, and their images are welcome by the fans. Ivana Wong was the 1st runner up for last year’s Favorite Female newcomer. I personally like her a lot, but she’s more on the quiet side as her main focus is on composing songs for other artists than actually singing the songs herself. She's still good, if you guys ever get the chance to listen to her sing.

Must watch Series: "Dicey Business"

I’d finished watching DB! Yay! I knew all along that I would like “Dicey Business” whenever I get the chance to see it; of course because there is my idol, Jessica Hsuan, present. hehe... =D However, never would I imagine that I'd be so engross by everything else: the cast, the storyline, the acting, everything! Definitely, “Dicey Business” is a one of a kind; a definite improvement on TVB’s standards as of lately.

The whole cast did a marvelous job with each of their assign roles. Michael Miu’s CEO character and Bobby Au Yeung’s Chai Foon Cheung were basically the 2 main focus throughout the series. Both did well to bring out their character in the best of anyone’s capabilities: as Michael was so handsome with his cool, collected CEO appearance and Bobby is just so…Bobby! Very versatile character he portrayed.

I liked Bosco’s “folded table” character at the beginning the best. He was funny and we (as the audience) understood his actions, w/out him even having to utter a single word. Very impressive body language and such a sad history of what he went through! His chemistry with Tavia was cute, but not as strong as I expected. Why? Most likely it's because Tavia’s character doesn’t interest me much; possibly the weakest compared with everyone else’s. Her acting was only okay (Tavia had stronger performances), but acceptable enough.

Like many people have told me before I started watching DB, saying how different Jessica Hsuan’s role was when compared to her previous ones and she was good! And funny, too! lol…that’s always great to hear of your favorite celeb being praised at. And I have to say, I AGREE! From the moment her character, Lee Ching Wan, was introduced, I loved it. Definitely a refreshing role for Jessica to take on. However, as the series progresses, I’d noticed that her character is mighty similar to her “Cold Blood Warm Heart” character, Cheung Suet Yee, towards the end. If you’d seen CBWH, you should noticed lots of similarities, along with many other factors as well.

The ending, as many had predicted, was a cliffhanger. A typical ending for any TVB series, meaning its open up for debate: should or should not a sequel will be made or. I personally do, as there’s so many unanswered questions I have after finished watching.

1) Does Bobby and Jessica reunite? If so, as friends or lovers?
2) Whatever happened to Jessica Hsuan’s good friend, the other addictive gambler played by Elaine Yeow?
3) Leanne Li mentioned that Michael Miu blackmailed her with some photos. What ever happened to her and what photos were they?
4) Whatever happened to Mr. Chan? (the evil partner of Michael Miu)

hmm...I guess my question will forever be a mystery until TVB makes a sequel. That is, IF they do.

Would I recommend DB to others? Most definitely: YES! However, the 1st episode may be a bit draggy at the beginning, but it’ll explain itself. Stay with the series, and I’ll guaranteed you’ll like it. Will this series be hard to beat for the rest of ’07 series? Ratings: no, since the ratings was fair throughout. Other series can easily surpass them. But everything else: yes. It’s not very often we read nonstop appraisal for a series from so many viewers/fans. Great way for TVB to set off the year. =)

Michael Wong, Jessica Hsuan, and Joe Ma were filming yesterday evening for TVB’s new series “The Drive for Life” 《歲月風雲》 in Lan Kwai Fong for a return reciprocal celebration scene. During the scene, Jessica and Michael, who plays lover in the series, was on a date and celebrating together; hugging and sharing a kiss on the lips. The atmosphere was definitely romantic, despite Joe Ma, who has a crush on Jessica, witnessing it all.

Michael Wong and Jessica Hsuan was filming a kissing scene yesterday evening out in the streets, attracting many tourists present. One tourist even blurted “Oh! They kiss.”; but luckily it didn’t distracted them on their performances; needing just 1 take to finish filming. Jessica mentioned that aside from needing to work, she rarely visits Lan Kwai Fong in the evening. Do you feel uncomfortable filming a kissing scene out in the public? “It’s real easy. There’s many series that requires it.”

Giving the opportunity to film a kissing scene with Jessica, Michael excitedly said, “I’m really happy to kiss a beautiful girl, but there was so many people (tourists) earlier! I had to tell myself to relax; as for this scene, the kiss had just been temporarily added.”

"TVB's 40th Anniversary, I'll definitely be there."

Over the past couple of years, TVB has done a great job in recruiting old faces to come back to TVB and film for them. Michael Miu came back in 2005 after years of absence in the entertainment industry with the series "The Academy;" Ben Wong came back this past year with the series, "Safe Guards." Ada Choi came back to film a series with TVB after a year of focusing in mainland production. Astrid Chan, Florence Kwok, David Chiang, Susanna Kwan, etc. etc. And in 2007, I doubt it would be any difference either, especially with TVB's 40th anniversary this year.

Like what TVB's 2007 Sales Presentation said, "TVB's 40th Anniversary, I'll definitely be here." How many artists can TVB manage to recruit back and film for them? So far from what I had read from the entertainment news, I only have a couple: Lee Sze Kei, Margie Tsang, Alvina Kong and the latest: Esther Kwan. It’s been years since I last Margie or Sze Kei jeh in a series, so it would be refreshing to see them onscreen once again. Sze Kei jeh can act, I know for sure, especially after watching a 1000 episodes of her and the rest of the cast of “Kindred Spirit,” Can’t wait for her newest series: “Heart of Greed” to be air, with its interesting storyline, good cast, 40 episodes, not bad at all. A delightful veteran for TVB to bring back into the family.

Margie…I’m not sure what to say about her. It’s been ages since I last saw in a series. Actually, to be more accurate, I’d only seen one of Margie’s series if my memory serves me right. She’s not a bad actress nor a great one, just average (in my opinion). Wonder how long she’s going to stick around.

Same goes with Margie’s good friend, Alvina Kong. Alvina had some major roles, starring opposite of Gordon Lam and Cutie Mui in the 90s; mostly in series that poke fun of the entertainment and music industry with their imitations of famous singers and celebrities. Her news drastically decreased from then or I failed to notice, but she’s back! Currently hosting in TVB’s newest variety show: "Is that Right “ (問題娛樂圈).

Biggest (& the best) news to end 2006: Esther Kwan will be coming back to film for TVB!! How great is that! 7 years has gone by since we last saw Esther and this time we’ll be seeing her almost daily. Esther has agreed to come back and star in a long running series starting in March. So filming should be taking place real soon if I’m not mistaken. For me, I think it’s great, but bit strange as well. Long running series have to film daily, long hours, and for a long period of time. Esther would want to come back for that? A 20+ episode series, I could imagine her saying yes to, but definitely not this. Besides, I would love to see her pair up with Bobby Au Yeung one more time in a series. Reminisce old times. The whole Bobby and Yoyo Mung pairing, I’m not to thrill about it anymore; especially with them filming “Trouble Daddy” now, and “Forensic Heroes II” right afterwards. =/

Happy New Year! Ahh...2007. A new year, a new start; some changes are in order, don't you think? As you can see, I'd changed my banner up top once again. Nothing much; just playing around with photoshop. =) 2nd, I started on a new series: "Dicey Business." It's real good right now, although the first part of Episode 1 was a bit slow, but Jessica Hsuan's appearance later in the episode made up for it. =D

Since it's the new year, of course there have to be some New Year Resolutions. I've been thinking, what can I do this year? Let see...

1) Good health? ; I always try to maintain good health (or so I think), nothing new.

2) Good grades? ; lol...I don't even have to worry about it. My parents, not forgetting my older sister, is a constant reminder that I need to keep my grades in check. No problem there!

3) Watch more TVB series?; I really doubt I need to watch any more TV, much less TVB series. That's a definite NO. Possibly I should change it to watch "less" TVB series. lol...I'll try my best.

4) Lose weight?; Umm...this has always been on my New Year's list. Nothing new, but just something I really wanted to do. lol...I doubt I can lose much. Gaining weight is probably much more like it.

5) Get a raise?; I will definitely try my hardest on this one!

6) Create more features for TVB Sidsation; hopefully in the new year, I can think of more interesting topics to add to this blog. Please continue to support me and TVB Sidsation in 2007! =)

Worst of 2006

Sorry guys for not posting up anything for so long. My after Christmas shopping took longer than I expected! hehe...plus, right now, I'm still smiling from ear to ear with my present this year! Yay!! All I can say right now is, "Thank you, Mom and Dad!" =)

Anyways, 2006 is about to be over, 2-3 more days left. This year wasn't the greatest year for for TVB. The ratings had been okay (what is up with "Dicey Business's" ratings! 29 pts! OMG!), the series had been okay, all the artists had been okay. Nothing significant really happen that we can actually look back and say, "Oh, I remember that year!" Nah, nothing like that, at least not in my view point. Overall, it was pretty bland year. Lets look back at the some of the worst of this past year (all based on my opinion, I might add).

Worst Series of the Year:

I watched a total of 14 series this year (only mention the ones that got aired in HK) and I have to say, "CIB Files" (刑事情報科) was the worst. I didn't like it all. At first, I expected it to be great since there's so many veteran actors starring and the name reminded me of DIF IV, but I was wrong. Who to blame? (shrugs) The storyline was just bad and confusing. Reminded me of the series "Split Second," which I didn't like either. hmph...can't believe I watch the whole series! lol...

Worst Themesong of the Year:

I'm usually very easy when it comes to music, especially TVB themesongs. But there's this one song I really really don't like and again, it's "CIB Files's" theme, sung by Bowie Lam. Normally, I like Bowie's themes but this one...hmm...don't know why. Just not a fan of it.

Most Annoying Actor/Actress of the Year:

No, I'm not going to say Kenny Wong. He's a good actor, but he's slowly getting on to my blacklist. I'm not going to say Sonija Kwok either. She improved this year! Amazing! I liked her in "Land of the Wealth." Most annoying actor right now: Charles Szeto. He's awful! I'm not sure if it's because of the roles he got stuck with or the Charles himself, but I'm not a fan of him. Such a weak guy; "Gateau Affair, " "Always Ready," "Under the Canopy of Love," "At Home with Love, " etc. etc. Not to mention his role for this year's Children Award Show. Yeah...I don't like him.

Worst Variety Show of the Year:

"King of Games" was broadcast couple of months ago. The whole point was to split the guests into 2 teams and have them compete with each other over a variety of games. Almost similar to the "Super Trio" game show, but a rather poor rendition of it. The games were funny at one point, but got tiring very soon afterwards. Worst part was for 1 show, same guests, but to be divided up into a couple of days of airing. 30 mins for these types of shows doesn't work, TVB. (sigh)

Happy Holiday, everyone! Ahh...Christmas time, one of my favorite times of the year. Everyones' hustling and bustling; trying to finish their last Christmas shopping, while I...well...I'm just sitting around enjoying my quiet evenings at home with my family. =)

What's up with TVB?

Took another couple days off from blogging lately to catch up on my TVB series watching. and to rest up of course. ;-) It was nice! Along with going to work, fold my mountain high pile of laundry, did some Christmas shopping, and other odds and ends going on in my life, nothing much happened to me. I have such an interesting life, huh? (sarcasm)

Finished watching "To Grow with Love" (肥田囍事) and I have to say this series was awful! A total waste of time! What's worth watching? Umm...the first couple of episodes maybe? What's not worth watching? The rest of the series. However, I have to give Myolie credit for being brave enough to gain all those extra pounds. (applause) But the storyline was just so cheesy! It stretched out so so so long! (sigh) What a disappointment! (this is just my opinion; you may think differently)

Currently watching "Return of the Condor Heroes '83" (神鵰俠侶) and I'm absolutely obsess with this series! It's so good! It's been ages since I last saw it and it's still every bit as great as I remember it to be. Did you ever had that feeling that you just can't let the series go and have to watch what happens next non-stop? Well, that's what happening to me. =D The storyline is what I'm in love with, along with every character created by JinYong, the songs sung by Roman Tam and Jenny Tseng, and especially the ending! Everything fits so perfectly that I fail to find anything to complain about! How come I can't find that satisfactions in any of TVB series I'd watched recently? Am I too picky or do you guys feel the same way?

Next series I'm watching? Dicey Business most likely, but I'm not going to start that until after the New Year. What better way to start off 2007 then with Jessica Hsuan series for me! =D "Glittering Days" I'm going to skip completely. Something about it I just don't like and not interested. hmm... =/ "The Conquest" (争霸) aka "Warlords." What in the world is that series? I tried very hard to remember who was in it, but no one popped up in my mind. Apparently it's a Sonija Kwok and Joe Ma series. Very surprised that TVB chose to air it right now, when obviously they need something that would help boost up their ratings. Sonija is known to have bad ratings when her series are aired! (E.g. "Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion" and "Land of the Wealth"). Umm...smart move? Joe Ma is headlining news with so many negative reports of him cheating wife lately. TVB still willing to air his series despite it all?! Interesting... (sigh) TVB's way of thinking...so strange and hard to understand.

I’m freeee……!!!!! lol…yay! It feels strange not having to lug my backpack around when packing up for the weekend. Ehh…but I’ll definitely get use to it! ;-) On regards about the “special” article I was going to write about/post…umm…that’s not going to happen. I completely forgot what I wanted to do! Something to do with Christmas, holiday shopping, and of course, TVB. hmm…maybe I’ll remember it over the weekend.

Let us talk about the entertainment news instead, shall we?

*Hint hint, I’ll be talking about the “trapeze incident” mostly, so if you don’t want to hear me babble, then I would suggest you quit reading right….NOW!*

The annual “Tung Wah Charity Show” 《歡樂滿東華》 happened about a week ago, and the controversies, not to mention the popularities of Yumiko Cheng’s flying trapeze incident skyrocketed! Unbelievable! Is it really necessary to blow it up so big? I just now started to watch the show myself (it’s about 5 hrs long btw) and you really can’t see anything! Yes, I feel sorry for Yumiko to have such an incident, live on TV, in front of millions of viewers happened to her, but…but..still! The paparazzi should just let it go. How different can it possibly be from the annual Miss Hong Kong pageants?! Asia once wrote about an article concerning this year’s MHK pageant and their “cameltoes.” Now that was bad! On the bright side, Yumiko, you might have the chance win the “'Four Electronic Media Syndicated Award” this year. No artists are getting as much media attention than you! Good job! (j/k!!)

Speaking of the trapeze performance, I felt so sorry for Eric Tsang and all the bashings everyone is giving him. If you had actually seen the entire segment, other than just Yumiko’s pants getting pulled off, everyone was literally silenced! Even the MCs were speechless. Eric basically was the 1st one to break the moment and crack up a joke. Nothing wrong with that. Its way better then awkward silence with the camera was still rolling and live on TV. In hopes to help raise more funds for the Abandonment Animal Organization, Jessica was in all praises for the organization itself; mentioning how all her dogs were abandoned when she adopted them. I don't know about others, but I'm a huge entertainment fanatic. TVB news (of course), other Hong Kong entertainment, and regular Hollywood entertainment that's here in the U.S.

Just this past week or so from what I read in the news, there was Hacken's big wedding, the rumors of the homosexuality of male celebrities (Steven Ma, Sammul Chan, etc.) and the Sammul Chan's stab-in-the-back news. Funny and what a coincidence that all these can be relate back to the Hollywood industry as well. Did the paparazzi run out of topics to write about? hmm...oh well, that is part of their jobs. =/

Hacken's Wedding vs. Tom Cruise's Wedding

November. What a lovely month for a wedding. 2 major weddings took place, almost back-to-back from each other: Hacken Lee's wedding and Tom Cruises. Hacken Lee and Emily Lo just had their wedding, costing about a $1 million dollars; inviting a grand cast of guests of the entertainment industry. Tom Cruise had his marriage to Katie Holmes, costing...gosh! way too much for a wedding inside a castle, but they had their fair share of a mega-blockbuster guest list, too. Not much differences there, but a minor detail. I don't know if it's Hacken's personal style and his way of expression of love, but why can't I find a single wedding pic that he has his arms wrapped around his wife! Sure, that's a nice pose when you're up on-stage and waiting to get an award, but it's your wedding day! Express your love! Be like Tom Cruise and make your bride feel like she's the most luckiest woman alive! Cheek-to-cheek pics! Hands clasp and rest on heart! Be romantic! (sigh)

I personally think it's pretty funny how tabloids and magazines constantly like to bring up a guy's sexual orientation if there was no news regarding them dating anyone. Dating is a private issue, so there's no obligation that celebs have to announce it the world! (Not everyone is like Tom Cruise; jumping on sofas, etc.) Recently been attack by such issue: Steven Ma (HK) and Clay Aiken (Hollywood). Is it really necessary for paparazzi to question them? I don't think so (reason explained already). Not artists welcome such questions when thrown at them. Steven was calm and collected, having a great laughs at the rumors. But not everyone is like Steven, too. Clay was impatient and agitated; going as far as covering Kelly Ripa's mouth on her own show (Regis and Kelly)! See! Not everyone enjoys hearing these news, and I don't really care for them myself. Find something else to write about please.

Sammul Chan vs. Star Reynolds

Haven't heard much of Sammul Chan of lately, and when we finally do, it's big. Well, for the 2nd time this year, Sammul said he's going to leave TVB in pursuit of a career in the mainland. Don't know if he'll actually leave this time or not, but I'll miss him. Only an okay actor, but he's a good eye-sight to look at onscreen. One of the reasons he mention for leaving was because of a betrayal by one of the 6-Olympic Stars: Ron Ng, Raymond Lam, Bosco Wong, Chris Lai, and Kenneth Ma (Sammul's the 6th). Same situation with Star Reynolds (Hollywood) earlier this year. She was kicked off "The View," mostly because of the betrayal of Barbara Walters. Back-stabbing here and there. That's why the entertainment industry is a dog-eat-dog world. My sympathy goes toward Sammul, and can't really blame him for leaving. Everyone of the original 6-Olympic stars are achieving fame and recognition, but him. The whole "betrayal" issue is probably a sham to make himself look better and win our sympathies! lol...it won mine! So still...poor Sammul.

lol...the weather outside my house right now is very frightful indeed. Since yesterday morning, a cold front swept through my home state; bringing in heavy rain, snow, sleet, high gust of wind, and of course, the freezing dropping temperature that came with it. Brrr...it's freezing here! Current temperature: 19°F (but actually feels like 4°). How wonderful is that?!

But on a bright side, all my classes were cancel today, along with many public schools, so had an extra day off for everyone. Yay! Curling up on the couch with a blanket over my lap and a nice pot of hot tea at arms reach, I was set for the day. =)

I got the chance to finish watching "Land of the Wealth" 《匯通天下》 today! Woohoo! Took me way longer than I originally expected, but at least I finished watching it. The whole storyline was stretched out a tad longer then absolutely necessary. It's a 32 episodes series, but I would say 20 episodes is more than sufficient. Can't really blame others for finding this series boring; causing the ratings to be only mediocre when aired. I can't help from releasing a couple yawns when watching it myself!

Overall the actings were great; Steven Ma and John Chiang were awesome (Steven's character was very close to his character in "Where the Legend Begins"). Tavia's screen time was very short and not much difficulty there. Sonija Kwok's acting had improved immensely from the last time I saw, but I'm still...very hesitant about her acting abilities. Not a true fan of her's just yet. I blame it on the storyline for stretching it way too long, causing the series to be only ehh... (sigh) TVB these days... (shakes head).

Is this series worth watching? Umm...yeah...in a way it is. You'll learn a lot about the functions of currency back in the old time. But here's a warning: the chinese used in this series is very deep. I didn't understand parts of the series, with the strong "4-word" phrases. Other then that and with a semi-longer plot then necessary, it's really not a bad series. The sceneries were beautiful, so that might be something to look forward to. =P

Now that I'm finish with LOW, what series should I watch next? Any suggestions? Finals are coming up for me, so I won't be able to start anything new 'til around Christmas time. Hopefully I'll find something that captures my interest soon! But until then, I'm going to go heat up my tea now. It's cooling off. =)

Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Hacken Lee!

Today, Nov. 28th, 2006, is the official day in which Hacken Lee and Emily Lo finally tie the knot together! Woohoo!! Invitations were released earlier in October with a supreme amount of secrecy toward the media and press, which is understandable.

The wedding invitations were very unique and special; encompassing both Emily and Hacken's careers (Hacken's success in the music industry and Emily's victory in 1992's MHK Pageant). Although the colors chosen (black & gold) aren't the traditional colors use (red & gold), it's still very pretty. I just like how creative it is, don't you? At least the guests will be happy, not having to receive a "red bomb" in the mail! =P

So far, every picture I've seen of the couple's wedding that were released was kept simple, but elegant. Nothing over the top and not that extravagant, as like the grand staircase shown here. Maid of honor was Emily's sister, and other bridesmaids included Ada Choi and Margaret Chung. Best Man of the night was the none other, Andy Lau with brothers, Joey Leung, and others.

What a star-studded night it must have been. But what better way than to have all your friends and love ones there present in witness of your special day! After 14 years of dating, Hacken Lee and Emily Lo officially became our Mr.& Mrs. Hacken Lee today. Congratulations to them, and may forever they be happy and live a wonderful life together. =)

Disappointments of the Week

(stretches) Woo! Took a couple days off from blogging, due mostly to my Thanksgiving holiday. It was nice break, but way too short. hehe...but classes are over for me in about 2 weeks, so I'll get my longer break then. =)

Some disappointments are floating in my head now, of course related to the HK entertainment industry. First of all, I'm dying to see "Dicey Business" right now, especially since lots of people have emailed me or left me messages on how great it is. Argh! The pain! ;-) Speaking of DB, the newest ratings have been released for the week of 11/20/06- 11/26/06, and "Dicey Business" only managed a mere 30 pts average in ratings (1.93 million viewers)! I was stunned! It's not what I would expect for their 1st week! (sigh) But on the bright side, TVB's "Dicey Business" sure kicked ATV's "No Turning Back" _____!!! "No Turning Back's" first week only racked up an average of 4 pts (260,000 viewers). hehe...that's kinda funny and sad at the same time. ATV hardly have ratings pass the 2-digit mark. Embarrassing compared to TVB, but I guess that's good enough in ATV's standards.

2nd disappointment I like to mention is the Leslie Lee's "Superstars Pictorial." Can anyone tell me the whole purpose of this? I know I know, the proceeds will go toward charitable cause, but still...I'm not too thrill with what I saw. In my opinion, it reflects a bad image of the artists, especially the ones who had a cigarette dangling between their fingers. (cough...Chilam and Cecilia) Eww!! Ruins my personal image of them. =/ Btw, the photo album is a limited edition with prices ranging around $300 (USD) and $2300 (HKD).

TVB 2007 Sales Presentation: Is it as promising as it sounds?

I finally got my chance to view the TVB's 2007 Sales Presentation clip! Yay! Although I'm a couple of days behind everyone else, but it's better late than never, right? hehe... =P First off, before I start talking which series interest me the most in the upcoming year, Thanksgiving Day is tomorrow, so Happy Thanksgiving's Day everyone! =)

TVB's 40th year in the entertainment industry. A very strong and steady production company with abundant amount of talents. What better way to show them off than to produce mega-size series for the upcoming year! Every series that was showcased to possible clients/sponsors are critical and seems to be a huge hit. 40+ episodes on one series, 60+ on another, and 80+ on the one after that. From the way the sales presentation went, all of them sounds very interesting, very dramatic, and very modern. Yes, they're all drama-series and in the modern time. How much different could each series be from the other, I really have no clue.

"Exquisite Beauty" 《玉面玲瓏》

This series seems very interesting to me just by looking at the pictures that were release couple weeks ago! With almost an all-female cast, lead by Ada Choi, Anne Heung, Bernice Liu, Shirley Yeung, Astrid Chan, etc. First thought, "uh oh! Not another WAB type of series!" But then again, it's not. Lots of deceiving, hatred, and manipulation will be involve. Suspenseful, too. Although I'm very interested to see how the storyline goes, I highly doubt TVB will make this series. Ada joined the cast for the 80+ episode series which would be filming soon, so hardly any time to fit this into her schedule. Plus, I can't think of anyone who could take her spot. Kenix Kwok maybe? Nah...I don't think so.

"Cordial Heroes" 《真心英雄》

I may be the only one out there that thinks highly of this series. It looks so cool! Sorry, I'm really into the HK's custom and legislation type of series. Couple years back, TVB produced "A Matter of Customs," so I assume this series has something relatively similar to it, as shown in the sales clip. Really strange of TVB to choose Bowie Lam and Charmaine Sheh to film the clip as just last year, "Always Ready" was released and the ratings were terrible and the storyline was base off of the HK government Air Force. You're trying to sell the series to your clients, hoping that they'll sponsor the series. With Bowie and Charmaine in it and their history for making "good ratings" the last time? Umm...good luck if the series could even make it past the chopping block!

"Cadets on the Beat" 《學警出更》

Nothing much to say other than I like "The Academy" when I first watched it, so I'm going to watch this one when it comes out, too. Some new cast will be added on to the storyline, like Joey Yung, Kenny Kwan, Kate Tsui, Sonija Kwok, and Michael Tao, but I doubt it's going to effect the original cast that much. Kate Tsui and Sonija are 2 artists I'm still not too fond of right now. Seeing both of them at the same time in the same series will definitely be difficult for me to bare. I guess we'll have to wait and see how it goes. Btw, heard that this series will probably be release March 2007.

"The Changing Times" 《歲月風雲》

A little obvious that these 2 series would spark an interest in me immediately. Since "The Changing Times" barely have any news release out to the public yet, my focus will turn mostly toward the "Brink of Law." I read the news about it during its filming, but I didn't realize that it was going to be that dramatic! From what I understand from the sales clip, Steven is a spy and he's trying to gather info from this one family. The family may or may not be Bernice's family, since info is really limited. But it does put in at the edge of my seat. Aside all that, Michelle Mai is evil! Never before have I seen her act as an evil person before, so a fresh change in image. Can't wait! Btw, heard that "Brink of Law" will be release after "Glittering Days" is over, so mid-December 2006 is my guess.

hehe...Happy 39th Birthday, TVB!! Woohoo!! Today, November 19th is the official birthday celebration of TVB Anniversary and as annually there was a huge extravaganza to celebrate its joyful day. Watched the anniversary show already, and I have to say, it's way better than last year. lol...compare any year to last year's show, anything is way better!

The show lasted approximately a little less than 2 hours long (commercials deleted), but I wouldn't mind if it was a tad longer. The performances weren't as all that great but enjoyable enough. Took lots of time playing games then actually performing. I guess interacting with fellow colleagues is a good thing, as we can see how happy everyone was. I meant it! Everyone seem to be having a blast this year! I'm going to do a recap of the Anniversary night. So if you don't want me to spoil it for you (or listen to me blabber ;-) ) I suggest you stop reading right.......NOW!! =P

It's been awhile since we last saw Sir Run Run (Uncle 6) at a TVB event. He didn't participate at the "Jade Singers Celebrate TVB Anniversary" nor the "TVB Anniversary Award Ceremony." Nope, just tonight! Carol Cheng and Liza Wang accompanied Sir Run Run in lighting event; officially starting the celebration of the show. Btw, I have to mentioned that TVB is so creative by having this jade ball rise up, and float on water (there was a stand) once the switched was activated. hehe...so cool! What! I'm easy to be impress by simple objects like these! =D

Next, were some dances that features all of TVB's artists dressed in costumes ranging from Chinese Opera to Justice Bao to Shanghai time periods to modern day clothing. Basically emptying TVB's dressing room in the back with every costume available. (I am so sorry for whomever works in the dressing room! They will have a lot fun doing that pile of laundry! )

All the artists were separated into different groups: the performers, the wavers, the dancers, and the walkers. The pictures above are the artist that actually performed; dancing and [lip] singing. Top "siu sungs" and "fa daans" came out next, led by the cast of "Welcome to the House," however, they didn't do much other than wave to the audience. (waves back) The dancers are the group with TVB variety shows' hosts, MHK contestants, etc. who just moved with the beat of the music. hehe...cute! And last but not least were the veterans, who walked out from the back, onto the stage, walked down the stage, went outside, and joined the rest of the artists for the big finale.

The special edition of "Ah Jeh" Cooking was the first performance of the night with Nancy Sit, Carol Cheng, and Liza Wang cooking. At first I was very excited about it, since I'm a fan of "Beautiful Cooking." However, when this segment past the 10 min. mark, it turned flat and sorry to say, a bit boring. It was taking too much time! Btw, the judges were Nat Chan, Michael Hui, and Alan Tam with Roger Kwok, Kevin Cheng, Ron Ng, and Bosco Wong as the chef's special assistants.

A huge game was played throughout the night of the show; splitting the artists up into 2 group (red and green) with 3 rounds. Round 1: "Th King of Game's" specialty game: blowing out candles with face plastered to a flexible, plastic sheet. Round 2: "15/16's" marching game, and Round 3: "Super Trio's" drawing the ping-pong ball suction game. At the end, the winning team was again split into 2 teams to play a round of "15/16;" regarding trivia questions of past TVB Anniversary events.

Nat Chan and Eric Tsang, I guess you can say, were the 2 sole performers of the night with each having a dance routine of their own. Nat performed with a group of artists in a drum/feather/1000 arms dance. Pretty well coordinated during the 1000 arms part. Average performance overall.

I have to give credits to Eric for being a great guy in his dedication towards Lydia Shum. (Fei Jeh). Lydia wasn't able to participate in this year's anniversary, still recuperating from her recent release from the hospital. Despite not being able to make it, Eric deliberately made his image the exact replica of Lydia (again) during his performance, saying it can't be a TVB Anniversary without Lydia here! How sweet! No matter how many times I've seen Eric dresses up like that, can't seem to get tire of it. He's funny! Along with Eric dressing as a female, his fellow comrades: Lam Mun Chung, Tang Tze Fung, Louis Yuen, Cheng Chi Kwong, and a whole group of [male] artists were singing, dancing, and flapping their dresses for the crowd. Quite funny and the guys [in dresses and make-up] were pretty ugly, too, as they went around and introduce who they were. (shivers)

Last but not least performance of the night was the Anniversary skit. Like every year (again, except last year's) TVB Anniversary skit is supposedly very funny and pokes fun of the most recent entertainment news. This year's is no different; focusing on the rumor couple: Bermoses; the Bosco's SMS textings; Yoyo's relationship with Ekin; etc. Using the theme of a sculpture display exhibit, Eric, Nat, Carol, and Alan [Tam] picked, poked, wrote, soaked, and scared all the artists: Moses Chan, Gigi Lai, Bernice Liu, Bosco Wong, Sonija Kwok, Kenny Wong, Charmaine Sheh, Bowie Lam, Kenneth Ma, Roger Kwok, Kevin Cheng, and Yoyo Mung. Very funny during the Moses and Bernice's part (she was picked up and placed on Moses lap!), but felt sorry for Gigi, Charmaine, and Bowie on their's (Gigi had a "fake" insect [1] thrown on her; Ah Sheh was scared by her own surname, a snake [sheh= snake; cantonese term] or so they say was in the bag; and Bowie was washed like he was a window pane [he doesn't look that happy!]) Very funny segment; a must watch!

The anniversary show wraps up quickly with the grand prize drawing of $390,000 HKD (yeah...no cars giveaways much less a new home; weird). Cut the the cake (the cake looks yummy!), invites the executives on stage, repeats their motto once again: "Always in the lead. Wonderful 39 years!" And wallah! There you have it! TVB's 39th Anniversary! Hope you guys enjoy reading my semi-long recap of the anniversary night. The show overall was average, but highly acceptable since we've got our performances back to the way it used to. I'll recommend watching it. lol...I recommend watching anything! hehe...see for yourself if you like it or not! =)

Don't really have much to say lately, especially regarding the world of TVB. That's kinda strange, since I used to go on for hours when the word "TVB" is brought up. Scary...on my behalf. (shrugs) Anyways, today I'm just going to blurt out random topics that's floating in my head, but not long enough for me to actually write a long article about. hehe...Enjoy reading!

First off, the cast of the series, "Dicey Business" 《賭場風雲》 had a promotion event yesterday, with stars such as Bobby Au Yeung, Jessica Hsuan, Tavia Yeung, Bosco Wong present. Can't believe it, but the official airing of the series is just 4 days away! How sweet is that! Can't wait can't wait can't wait!! (jumps around) Okay...phew...I'm calmed now. =P Btw, the official site for "Dicey Business" has been open on TVB.com already. Click here for the site. Read the synopsis/storyline of it already, and from the looks of it, Tavia and Jessica's roles seem so minor in the series. A bit male-oriented; focusing mainly on Bobby, Michael, and Bosco. hmph...what a shame. =/

TVB Anniversary Award Ceremony has come and gone for about a week now, and I've officially watched it a good couple of times myself. The show was enjoyable on most parts, but some familiar faces are lacking on the screen. Such as Jessica Hsuan (of course), Melissa Ng, Maggiu Siu, John Chiang, Kenix Kwok, and Bernice Liu, just to name a few. Bernice Liu? Wasn't she at the ceremony? lol...I thought so, too, as she was wearing the eye-catching, deep-V golden dress of her's. But seriously! After the nth time I'd watched the show, she's nowhere to be spotted amongst the female section. Believe me, but I'd strained my eyes trying to spot where she's located. Nope...no luck by me. My conclusion: since it's an Oscar type of theme, Bernice just blended herself with the either one of the award trophies on stage or the backdrop. Camouflage technique!

Speaking of the award trophies, why is TVB using the exact same trophies as last year's? Umm...did they not read our dislikes about it? lol...kinda funny how everyone is complaining so much about Kevin Cheng winning Best Actor, that the trophies were failed to be brought up. My conclusion: the trophies were leftover from last year. Think about it. Every year, aside last year's, TVB always had the My Favorite TV character to hand out to the artists, ranging about 13 awards. Plus, they always had the My Favorite Partnership (Drama), that's another extra 2 awards. By adding all the variety show awards, Most Improved, Supporting, Best... and split it into 2 yrs, TVB saves a bundle on just trophies itself!! My theory makes sense in some ways, don't you think? ;-)

Baby Boomers!

lol...this is great! Cute little babies are popping up everywhere!! If you haven't read the news by now, Julian Cheung (ChiLam) and Anita Yuen (Mrs. Cheung) got a baby boy!! He's the cutest darling ever!! Look!

According to the news, the baby inherited Anita's nose and ChiLam notorious dimples (OMG!!). hehe...how cute is that!! Shiloh Pitt, you have a competition! (Shiloh Pitt is Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's baby girl, plus I was j/k. =P ).

The 2nd baby sensation is the news of Carlos Ng and his wife, Violet, having a baby girl!! Congrats to them!! Although no pics of the their newborn are released out to the public yet, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be a darling as well. All babies look cute!! =D

A little coincidence that the 2 little ones are born one day after each other. November 12th for ChiLam and Anita's baby. And November 13th for Carlos Ng and his wife's baby girl. A "dragon and phoenix" babies they are! Well...not really, but close enough.

Okay, that's all the compliment I'm going to give out to the babies. Can't spoil them. Accordingto the Chinese tradition, we should always say the complete opposite of what we think of babies, such as they're ugly (but cute when grown up), naughty (but obedient in the future), etc. etc. It's for their own good. Of course, I don't have the heart to tell a baby that he/she is ugly! If you can and will do it, show your support to the Cheung and Ng family by unpraise their kids!! ;-) (Be easy on them please! They're just babies!) =)

That's exactly how I feel right now. Utterly speechless. lol...what can I possibly say now that I just finished watching TVB's Anniversary Award Presentation?!! OMG? WTF? etc. etc. Ehh...my "french" isn't that great, so I won't say that. Besides, if you go anywhere that's TVB related, you could easily find my mix-feelings of the winners' list.

As EVERYONE now knows, Kevin Cheng and Charmaine Sheh are this year's Best Actor & Actress winners of TVB of 2006. lol...lol...haha.... TVB management personnels...(shakes head)...you guys are great! Seriously! You're absolutely the most creative and unexpected people ever!!! Hats off to you for completely blowing me off guard. Never, and I mean NEVER!!! will I expect Kevin to win the Best Actor for his role as Sum Long (Alan) in "Under the Canopy of Love"!!! Like everyone else, OMG!!!! I admit, Kevin is cute and his acting in UTCOL had improved immensely from the other roles I've seen him in. But still...Best Actor? Surpassing Moses Chan? Raymond Lam? And all the other Siu Sungs? Oh pleaz.....

Charmaine snagging the Best Actress award, I was ready for it. Disappointed that Ada and Sheren didn't win, but I was still happy for Ah Sheh. Her acceptance speech was so emotional! It even got me all teary-eyed! (sniff sniff) Funny how Bobby Au Yeung was included in Ah Sheh's speech. hehe...a highlight for me! Don't ask me why. ;-)

Winners for the Best Supporting Actor/Actress are: Kenny Wong for "Dance of Passion" (oh dear!) and Shirley Yeung for "Always Ready" (yay?). Like I said yesterday, if Kenny Wong wins an award, I'm going to die! lol...God!! Are you playing a trick on me?!! I'm only 20!! I still have to finish college!! Ehh...I need to finish typing up this post anyways, I'll postpone it...indefinitely. ;-) Anyways, got off topic there. I'm beginning to wonder if Kenny has some inside source of him winning. Earlier, he stated that he was "confident" and was "for sure" he'll get an award to this year. Well...he got it! The deeds is done! No sense complaining about him anymore. Btw, does he have to reveal his "hot" body again?! lol...woah!!

I maybe the only one out there who's okay with Shirley Yeung winning last night. No problem with me. Her character as Nikki in "Always Ready" was quite lively and I liked her. Maneuvering wheelchair throughout the series, plus her chemistry with Chris Lai makes it much more easier for me to accept Shirley as the winner.

Most Improved Actor/Actress: Kenneth Ma and Linda Chung. Can't really say anything bad about this pair of winners. They did happen to be on my list, but Selena Li and Kevin Cheng had the most improvement among anyone I've seen (Kevin didn't improved that much to receive Best Actor though). Linda seemed very calm and collected during her speech; like she rehearsed it beforehand. Kinda obvious that Linda's going to win this year, so no surprise there.

At first when I learned that Kenneth won the Most Improved Actor, I was like...okay? And I still feel this way...a bit. But have to say, his acceptance speech was hilarious! I loved it!! Very cute and funny. Much watch that part if you don't on watching any parts of the show.

Favorite Male/Female Characters: Steven Ma (Safe Guards) and Charmaine Sheh (Maiden's Vow). Again, not really much I can say about either one of them. So glad that Steven got some sort of recognition for his character in SG rather than go home empty handed. Go Steven!

Haven't seen "Maiden's Vows" yet so I can't really criticize Charmaine's acting and how well she played her characters(s). She's deserving? Maybe? Personally, I still think Sheren Tang's character as Hilda was much better.

The other awards mentioned for the rest of the night I was okay with. At least I got 2 of my guesses and favorites winning in their categories. Worth watching this anniversary? I suppose it is. But have a bag of popcorn ready when watching though. No, don't eat it! It's for throwing at the screen. You'll never know what when you want to hurl something at the screen when watching. Popcorn: helps ease your anger but at the same time causes the least amount of damage. It works! ;-)

Sidney's TVB Award Favorites

TVB's Anniversary Award Presentation is Friday, November 10th at 9:30 p.m. ; taking the time slot of "To Grow with Love." Earlier I predicted who TVB is going to pick as their top 5 in each category. Kinda got drifted away from continuing on with my predictions of TVB choices. hehe... =P Anyways, here's my final prediction of who I want to win for this year:

Hopefully I won't be disappointed with my personal favorites during the award ceremony tomorrow. But from the looks of it...I'm bracing myself for anything to happen when I read tomorrow's headlines. However, if Bowie Lam wins Best Actor again for his role as Yip Man Hei in "Dance of Passion," I'm going to croak! Same goes with Kenny Wong. Cockiness doesn't win my support!

This is the official poster of "Dicey Business" aka "Casino Wars" aka "Casino Crisis" or the just the regular "Dou Cheung Fung Wan" 《賭場風雲》 name that everyone knows and loves. I'm still scratching my head of why TVB would pick the title "Dicey Business" for this anticipated series. Not very exciting. Kinda bland. Kinda lame?, too. hmm...same goes with the poster. I'm not too thrill with the image. But have to say, it does capture the Las Vegas...Reno, Nevada look...in a way...I think. lol...basically, it's an okay poster to me. Just not as strong as an image I expected.

The relationship chart above was founded by Mrs. Luk @ Jessica Hsuan's Forum. Did my best to translate what it said in Chinese, but could be off on a little with my translations. =P The pictures on the chart looks very cute; funny facial expressions. hehe...kinda go against the seriousness of this drama; seeing so many funny antics and behind the scenes clips. Today is the premiere of the 2nd TVB Anniversary series being aired: "Glittering Days" 《東方之珠》. Which means Charmaine racks up a total of 5? series aired this year. Impressive!! The first 2 were a bomb (meaning bad), the next 2 was okay, and now the newest one...very curious to know how well it would be received by the HK audience, compared to the hyped "To Grow with Love" 《肥田喜事》. Speaking of TGWL, the average ratings for this series is just 32 points, for the 2nd straight week in a row. Not too high, but not too low either; just average. Definitely surprising.

Been around forums, read some comments, and saw that lots of people are enjoying this one song, "Sol #4," played during the scene where Myolie Wu is chasing after Matthew Ko. Does the song sound familiar to you? If so, it was also played in "A Recipe for the Heart" 《美味天王》, when Cheung Dat Ming was chasing after Esther Kwan, and Jessica Hsuan chasing Cheung Dat Ming. lol....a bit complicated situation there. Anyways, I knew I had that song somewhere in my CD album, and finally founded it! Uploaded and sharing it with you guys! Hope you guys enjoy the song! Btw, the lyrics are posted up, too, in case you want to sing-along. =)

Side Note: the song was from a concert of William So's, so it's not the original full-version of the song, but still a good 3+ min. long. Lyrics edited by me, so it matches the song provided. =)

Jade Singers Celebrate TVB Anniversary: Review

2 nights ago was the Jade Singers Celebrate TVB Anniversary 《翡翠歌星賀台慶》show. Watched it already myself, and I thought it was great! Way better than what happen last year (if you’ve seen it last year’s too).

The opening of the show had all the singers lined up and separated: guys in red to the left, and girls in white on the right. For the guys side, there's Andy Lau (co-Captain), Hacken Lee (co-Captain), Andy Hui, Eason Chan, Leo Ku, Jordan Chan, Hins Cheung in the front row. And for the females, there's Kelly Chen (co-Captain), Joey Yung (co-Captain), Miriam Yeung, Denise Ho, Twins, and Jade Kwan in the front.

Funny how at most TVB shows, Sir Run Run (Uncle 6) comes out with the year’s MHK winner and does the light opening ceremony first. TVB ditched that part. Instead, they had Lui Fong and Carol Cheng exchange vows. No, not wedding vows, but vows that they’ll respectively support their own team and for that night only, ditch all personal relationships between the 2. hehe...what a great way to kick off the show! I highly recommend watching that part! Very cute and funny. Andy Lau even teased more of the couple by singing his song: "你是我的女人" as a gift to Carol Cheng on the behalf of Lui Fong. Title meaning: You are my woman! =D

Not too sure why TVB prefers to start off the show with the singers' rendition of "Princess Flower" (帝女花). The costumes are really pretty but something as slow as Chinese opera to start the first performance. hmm...personal opinion, that's not a rating grabber, TVB. Everything else was great though; something different.

Lots of dances were performed, too. And I love all of them. Very beautifully coordinated and a great choice of songs to go with them. Kelly Chen took part in a major dancing segment with her and Jordan Chan, so was in majority of the spotlight. Sad to say she was a bit stiff when dancing. Maybe conservative is much more like it. A personal observation by me. Bernice performed a hip-hop belly dance with Yumiko Cheng and other singers. Surprise surprise (not really) Bernice was in the middle, the leader, and the best of the group. Nothing much to criticize.

The Andy Lau and Leon Lai segment was not as great as I anticipated. Secretive, yes. Nice to see 2 of the 4 Heavenly Kings, yes. But not what I would choice as the climax of the show. I still enjoyed it. Old songs sung. Btw, Leon still looks very cute after all these years. Very dreamy. ;-)

This year's "Jade Singers Celebrate TVB Anniversary" 《翡翠歌星賀台慶》was great in many aspects, compared to last year. But one thing lacking is the number of singers present and participating at the show. The count said that there was over 100 artists present. Ehh...really! Didn't seem like it! Very obvious that Gold Label only sent out a couple of their artists (Miriam, Leo, and Justin) and the rest were absent: Alex Fong, Stephy Tang, Kary Ng, Edmond Leung, Ronald Cheng, etc. Same goes with the other companies. What's going on? hmm... interesting... but it's good a show. I would recommend it for others to watch. =)

Joe Ma crawls under a car to win Jessica’s heart

Jessica Hsuan and Joe Ma were filming early yesterday morning for their new series, “The Changing Times” 《風雲歲月》. The scene talked about how Joe was trying to win over Jessica’s heart, going as far as kneeling in the street, crawl under a car, and even touching a sewage lid! However, the main purpose was just for Joe to retrieve Jessica’s earring for her. Seeing a sophisticated, well-bred guy willing to kneel in the dirty street for her, Jessica was very touched. They hugged, held hands, and walked off as the scene became very romantic.

Although through the camera’s point of view, it was very sweet, but if looked from a different angle, not very so, as Joe forgot the principle rules of being sanitary: After crawling underneath a car and even touching a sewage lid, Joe forgot to wash his hands and went on to hold Jessica’s hand!

The anniversary is coming up soon and Jessica is nowhere near the rumors flying about, however, she seems to be okay with it. Not stress at all, but seem to be very happy, too. Before filming started, Jessica even went to a nearby convenient store to buy drinks for the whole cast and crew; as they all shouted “Forver Jessica Hsuan” in return of her good deed.

In order to win Jessica’s heart, Joe Ma’s willing to lie in the street and crawl under a car to retrieve her earrings for her.

Finally winning over Jessica, Joe immediately gave her a big hug; while on the other side, Jessica was wiping her hands with a tissue!

Joe just finished crawling underneath a car and even touched a sewage lid, but didn’t wash his hand before holding Jessica’s hand. So unsanitary!

TVB Calendar: What's the order of the months?

lol... No, I'm not THAT dumb and not know the right orders of the 12 months (looks at calendar) j/k!! What I was referring to is how TVB is arranging their calendar this year; who belongs to Jan., Feb., March...etc. etc.

Earlier, news source such as the Orisun, Mingpao, and even TVB Magazine itself posted articles relating to the order in which the pics will be feature in: January 2007 kicks off with Bowie and Charmaine leading the front, follow by Liza Wang, Adam Cheng, Jessica Hsuan for February; March: Roger, Melissa, and Steven, and so on. But then again, how accurate is this order?

In yesterday's TVB Scoop (10-30-06), they talked about the making of the annual TVB calendar, and showed some clips of the photo session. According to the clip, credits to TVB.com btw; January 07 kicks off with the red-fiery photo of Myolie, Raymond, Tavia, Sonija's pic. February stays the same. March with the Ron Ng, Winnie Shum, Matthew Ko, Charmaine Li pic. And so on. What happened to the Bowie and Charmaine photo? Supposedly that's last photo of the year, so it'll feature in December.

So what do you think? Like the new arrangements or no? Myolie and Charmaine's rumors have been escalating non-stop as the anniversary draws closer and closer. With the airing of this clip, does that mean Myolie have the upper advantage over Charmaine? January before December. Or vice-versa? haha...of course this is just me rambling here, so nothing personal to the Charmaine or Myolie fans out there reading this. I'm remaining neutral. Besides, what was posted earlier could have been accurate and what I saw from this clip was absolutely useless; only for entertainment, not an informative source. (shrugs) Clip has been uploaded, so you may view it and see for yourselves. Enjoy! =)

Joey Yung Live in Las Vegas

Couple weeks? months? ago, a family friend asked me and my family to go with them on a Las Vegas trip during the Thanksgiving holiday. We declined, but it wasn't 'til last night that I learn that there will be a Joey Yung concert at the Mirage Hotel & Casino!! OMG!! My chance to see Joey and attend one of her concerts was at my fingertips!! But... (sigh)... won't be able to go this time. More bits and pieces of the 2007 TVB calendar are being revealed out to the public. Like last year, TVB uses their annual calendar to promote and reveal who's with TVB, who's going to be promoted by TVB, and who TVB still likes. Not a bad thing to do, but the pics do seem a bit cluster, especially with so many artists on just one pic. I like how TVB paired 2-3 artists much better a couple years back, but of course, that could be just me who prefers it that way. =)

Much appreciated to Lee for taking the time to scan the pic. Love Jessica as always, but the make-up seems a tad too heavy for her; possibly it's the quality of the pic above. (shrugs) What's floating in mind right now: why is Virginia Lok in the pic?!! lol...umm...interesting? Wonder if Stephen Chen is going to be in the calendar, too. hehe... =P

Golden Songs of Our Century 《我們的世紀金曲》

Been very busy lately again. Tests, work, tests, work, and did I mentioned more tests that basically took over much of my time lately. Well...just for this past week, and most likely next week, too. (sigh) One good thing about being so busy is that it takes all my time away from reading the daily enterainment news involving the TVB industry. I so missed that!! Luckily it's mostly located at either at Em's TVB Space or at Jayne's JayneStars, so much easier on me. A good 30 mins+ of reading. Nice! hehe... =D

Breaking news for me, my personal most anticipated series of the year, "Casino Wars" 《賭場風雲》, will air right after TVB's anniversary night; Monday, November 20th @ 9:30 p.m. Woohoo!! What a fine way to kick off the new year! It's officially been a year since I last saw a Jessica Hsuan series, so my expectation for this series is really high. You guys know how big of a Jessica Hsuan I am. =)

Another piece of news that caught my attention if the upcoming show, Golden Songs of Our Century 《我們的世紀金曲》, which is set to take place next week: Nov. 1-4 @ 8:15 p.m. Stars that would be present at the show include Adam Cheng, Liza Wang, Raymond Lam, Ron Ng, Miriam Yeung, Andy Hui, and Kelly Chen, just to name a few. This is great! Not too sure if you guys still remember this or not, but I used to do a "Song of a Day" feature and most of the songs I'd uploaded was oldies, so I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy.

Today's news said that Ron and Raymond are practicing dance moves for the show together. hmm...kinda strange. Does oldies really have songs that require dancing? Or am I just misinterpreting the show and what songs that will be performed. Oh well... I'm kinda curious now to find out how well Ron Ng will perform that night. His dancing is good, but singing...no comment.
